NEW ARRIVAL: Uncut Mat Board
It's finally here!  Frame Destination is happy to announce that we now offer uncut mat board on our website.  (You can find it on the main menu bar under the "Components" tab).  Uncut mat board has no pre-cut, beveled opening in which to display photographs or other artwork.  It is ideal for people who like to cut the mat openings themselves, or for people who are float mounting, and need a color-matched backing board to place behind their image.  It is also good for people who simply prefer to mount to matboard instead of foam core.

The outside dimensions of this new product can be cut to specific, custom sizes, including large panoramas.  Just select "custom" in the size pull-down menu, and specify the dimensions you need.  And of course we will offer uncut mat board in standard frame sizes such as 16×20 and 18×24 - and it is also available in many non-standard sizes such as 12×18, 13×19, or 16×16 - we have over 60 different sizes to choose from!

If you do a lot of high-volume work, or cut your own mats, consider ordering raw sheets, which are 32"×40" in size.  The raw sheets are the least expensive (per square inch) type of mat board.  Its edges are unfinished, and it arrives direct from the manufacturer.  Since we have no cutting labor we can sell it for less, but please note:  raw sheets may not be exactly 32×40 in size, or perfectly square.

Our new Uncut Mat Board is available in the same categories as our regular matboard:
4Ply Bainbridge Acid-Free Alphamat
8Ply Bainbridge Acid-Free Cotton Rag
SQUIRREL PORTRAIT STUDIO
For some time, my wife Joely and I have been putting food out on our patio for the neighborhood wildlife (birds and squirrels).  Recently I noticed that some of them - especially the squirrels - don't mind people too much if there is food around.  One day I snapped a few pictures of them with my point & shoot.  The squirrels let me get surprisingly close, so I started thinking, and realized: why not just set up a few lights, so I'd be ready the next time they showed up?  Thus was born the Squirrel Portrait Studio!  I set up 2 strobes with soft boxes, hung a backdrop, and converted a cat condo into a squirrel posing platform. Then all I had to do was wait for the right squirrels to come by.  Some did not want me on the patio, and one did not like the strobes, but two of them in particular were so indifferent to me, that it was hard to get them to look up from their food. One of my photographer friends suggested that I use a more natural looking backdrop, but I replied, "These aren't nature shots...they are portraits!"  Now I just need to print a few out and place them on the porch, so I can see what the squirrels think of them. (And of course I'll frame them, too!)
Cheers,
Mark
