Governor Uses Veto Power to Strike Down Afterschool Legislation
Assembly Bill 1526

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
vetoed Assembly Bill 1526. The bill would have put the Proposition 49 funding guarantee on the ballot for the voters to consider.

This is welcomed news in the afterschool community and should serve as a reminder that we must remain diligent in our efforts to keep our legislators informed about the benefits of afterschool programs.

Senate Bill 1674

The Governor also vetoed SB 1674 yesterday. The proposed legislation would have clarified that After School Education and Safety program grantees may operate on weekends with their base grant. The legislation also would have clarified that ASES grantees must accomodate some administrative costs of subcontractors.
