| Budget Conference Committee Proposes Ballot Initiative to Repeal ASES Funding Guarantee |
The Budget Conference Committee has approved trailer bill language that would put a ballot initiative before voters in November asking them to repeal the Proposition 49 funding guarantee.
The recommendations of the Budget Conference Committee have not been approved by the Legislature or Governor yet, but now is the time to act if we want to save afterschool programs.
The Central Valley Afterschool Foundation has provided three ways for you to get involved and take part in ensuring that Proposition 49 continues to receive the funding level that was approved by the voters.

| SES and 21st CCLC Form Partnership |

The goal of the grant is to increase the academic achievement of low income students.
The Office of Innovation and Improvement at the Department of Education seeks to fund programs that "will serve as national models of how these two federally authorized after-school initiatives can be coordinated so that a greater number of students enroll in, participate in, and complete academic after-school services," according to the Department of Education's newsletter.
The deadline for applications is August 12, 2008. For more information, click here. |
