| Legislative Update |
|
Assembly Concurrent Resolution 134
The Bay Area Partnership for Children and Youth, together with Assembly member Mark DeSaulnier, have developed a proposed Resolution that would establish a Legislative Task Force to study the issues associated with the lack of safe, healthy, constructive activities for disadvantaged youth in the summertime. The Task Force would be in charge of developing recommendations about what the state should do to address these challenges, such as learning loss, crime and victimization, and obesity.
The resolution is scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Health Committee on June 10, 2008.
---------------------------------------------------------
Budget
The Governor's proposed budget reduction to Proposition 49 funding was rejected by the Assembly Budget Subcommmittee during recent session. The budget reduction still has to be considered by the Senate Budget Subcommittee and potentially the full Budget Conference Committee.
We will continue to provide updates throughout the budget process.
---------------------------------------------------------
SB 1674
Senator Torlakson's bill aimed at providing clean-up language to Proposition 49 continues to makes its way through the legislative process.
In order to move the bill forward, supporters made concessions that removed the miminum grant for small school provision. This enabled the bill to move from Appropriations to the Senate where it was voted on and passed. The bill will be heard in the Assembly within the next couple of weeks.
