August 2009 Newsletter
Greetings!

We hope you have made the best of these long, hot summer days.  We were thrilled to kiss the kids goodbye this week and get back on a more routine schedule! A big thanks to many of our long standing clients - Connie, MaryLee, Lesley, Allie, Kathy and others who kept us busy this summer!  We are sad that their homes are almost completely finished!

As we look forward to Fall, we are continuing with our charity efforts (DIFFA, KIVA and Happy Tails) as well as planning our annual trips to Las Vegas (with our Best Practices Network colleagues) and Highpoint, NC (for the Annual International Furniture Show).

We hope to hear from you soon!

All our best,
Joann and Kelly

Yes, Being Green is Gorgeous!
We recently toured a new showhouse here in Atlanta call the Greenhaven Home built by Pace Homebuilders as a model for green building and sustainable design in a totally eco-friendly neighborhood. We were pleasantly surprised to see how really beautiful and clever the interior design was and how easily the "Green" products were assimilated throughout the decor. We walked away with many fresh ideas and a renewed appreciation for the value and beauty of Green design.

One of the key objectives of the Greenhaven show home is to illustrate to the community how easy it is to be Green. Being green is not all about earthen homes, wind turbines, and solar panels. Much of the green home building industry has touted living green as an elite club for idealists. This home is proof that the average homeowner of the average suburban household can live green too!

The tour is free and is being held on Saturdays and Sundays in August.  For more information, go to:  www.greenhavenhome.com.

Here are a few of our favorite things:

reduce reuseREUSE, REDUCE, RECYCLE
Have you heard your kids come home from school reciting this mantra? Do you realize if you take the opportunity to reuse an antique chair by simply recovering it in a soft linen or you recycle old frames and give them new life with a fresh coat of paint, you are enjoying Green decor?  It not only feels good to reuse, reduce and recycle, with a little creativity, it can be gorgeous!!  Look around your home or in local antique marts and flea markets and see what products you might be able to bring back to life.  Decor with a "story" is always more special!

It Feels Good to Give!
We recently attended a wonderful kick off party hosted byInsidesign (our kitchen & bath design source) for Dining by Design in support of DIFFA.  After the October 8th celebration, we will bring you photos of the most awe inspiring and beautiful table top designs you have ever seen!

DIFFA stands for "Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS" and is one of the country's largest supporters of direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk. Merging care and commerce, supporters of DIFFA come from all fields of fine design and the visual arts, including: architecture, fashion design, interior design, photography and consumer product design.

We are happy to support their efforts.  For more information, click here: http://www.diffa.org.

Words to Live By
"One of the very first things I figured out about life...is that it's better to be a hopeful person than a cynical, grumpy one, because you have to live in the same world either way, and if you're hopeful, you have more fun." - Barbara Kingsolver

(Note:  Last week we installed a new home office for one of our teacher clients.  She asked us to make sure that her Tigger momento was not forgotten because he reminds her to be happy every day.  She obviously lives by these words!)
