December 2008 Newsletter
Greetings!

As we say goodbye to 2008, we would be remiss if we did not take a moment to humbly and gratefully thank you for your business this year.  The stars must have aligned, because we had a very successful  year filled with a lot of hard work, new opportunities and challenges, travel, and most importantly - fun!  Despite the doom and gloom of our economy, we have committed ourselves to marching forward, investing in our personal design education as well as our business operations.  We have expanded our staff, our products and resources and our services.  We feel this is a philosophy that has served us well and hopefully will be an example to other struggling small businesses.

We truly believe that this positive attitude (along with a crazy work ethic and an undying committment to superior customer service) is what brings us good fortune.

As Winston Churchill said, "We make a living by what we get.  We make a life by what we give."  With this always in mind, we continue to support women entrepeneurs in third world countries through our donations to the Kiva Foundation. We each have our own personal causes we support throughout the year such as Happy Tails Pet Therapy and working with the elderly at the Savannah Grand Retirement Community.

From our families to yours - we wish you many happy memories this holiday season!  We look forward to working with you again in 2009.

All our best,
Joann & Kelly

Personalizing Spaces
J&K install
This year we found ourselves designing unique, personal spaces such as this basement filled with antique European sports car memorabilia.  These projects were definitely challenging at times! We had a lot of fun hunting on Ebay & Craigs List, visiting antique shops, etc. looking for that perfect vintage gas can, or a specific lamp or apothocary jar from decades ago.
Meeting Special Families

Many of our clients come from different countries, have special stories, interesting hobbies, etc.  It then becomes our job to create a space that celebrates "home" to that client.  In this home, we created a customized piece of art over the mantle that featured an ancient Chinese proverb painted on the wall. The clients chose this quote in honor of their adopted Chinese daughter.
Yes, Commercial Design!

Sometimes we just laugh and shake our heads at the new projects we find ourselves emersed in.  Much to our delight (and initial nervousness), we tackled the lobby of the new Microtel Inn & Suites in Woodstock, GA this year. It turned out to be a great success and one we really enjoyed!  Now we just want to get our hands on some of those doctor's waiting rooms!
Holiday Party Recipe
If you're asked to bring a dish to yet another holiday gathering, here's one that is sure to be a hit!

1 - 9" Apache loaf of Bread (or any hard, round or oval shaped loaf)
16 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
8 oz. softened cream cheese
8 oz. sour cream
1/2 cup minced green onions
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
(2) 4 oz. cans of green chiles
1 cup diced ham

Cut the top off the bread, reserving top and scoop out the inside. Combine remaining ingredients and mix well.  This will be a very stiff mixture. Fill the bread with the cheese mixture. Replace the top and place on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.  Serve with Fritos scoops.  Enjoy!

Words to Live By

We are not asked ... to believe in a perfect world. We are asked to equip ourselves with courage, hope, readiness for hard work and to cherish large and generous ideals.
