Design Tidbits and Trends to Share

August, 2008
Greetings!

We hope that you had a tremendous summer! We don't know about you, but as much as we love our kids, we're glad school is back in session!  It was a very busy summer filled with work and play. Unlike many in our industry, we are blessed to have been very busy with several exciting design projects this summer.   We are working on three kids rooms, and two entire home makeovers!  (This means fun photos coming up in the next few months!!!!)

Next month, we are off to Las Vegas to attend the 5th annual Business of Design Conference held at the Wynn Resort.  We will have lots to share!

Keep in touch! We love hearing from you - even if it's just to say Hi!

Now That is a Cool Idea!
Admittedly, we would much prefer you call us to come up with these ideas, but some are just too good NOT to share.  Here are some really creative, easy ways that you can add interesting decor to your home.  Just call us if you need Chris's number (our installer) - most of you know him anyway!

  Color Trends for 2009
As you know, we are continually investing in ourselves to learn about the latest trends, tools and products in the interior design industry.  Recently, Joann attended a seminar given by the Color Marketing Group which is the premier international association for color design professionals.  Their mission is to create color forecast information for professionals who design and market color.   Here are a few tidbits she learned:

The color "green" still prevails and will for 2009 and beyond.

Metals - the copper family, bronze and graphite/pewter are growing in popularity.

Gray is a dominant neutral.  Gray, creamy white and varied colors (yellow is a great mix with this) make up a "contemporary" palette.

There is also a new emphasis on blue.  From vibrant blues to turquoise to periwinkle to peacock.  The blue palette works wonderfully with the metal colors.

At this seminar, Joann met a gentleman named Dewey Sadka. For a limited time, you can go to his website and get a career analysis by answering a few questions!!  He also analyzes emotions and relationships based on color.  It is extremely interesting.   Just go to: www.deweycolorsystem.com

  A Special College Dorm Room
There are definitely some perks that come with having an interior designer for a mom.  Remember last month when we shared the photos of the green desk salvaged from an antique shop?  Well, Joann's daughter Amanda left for college this weekend and is happily ensconced in her new apartment with furniture that she made her very own.

Summer Time Fun
  Kids in Kiawah with dogs
The majority of our clients are pet lovers so I thought you'd get a kick out of this photo. My family and I visited my college roommate who has a summer home in Kiawah Island, SC.  Thankfully, she loves dogs as much as I do and not only invited my dogs to join us, but then allowed them on the sofa!  The kids thought that was great!
P.S.  My two girls Emory and Riley are the blondes (surprise).

Words to Live By
"Sometimes a glance, a few casual words, fragments of a melody floating through the quiet air of a summer evening, a book that accidentally comes into hands, a poem or memory-laden fragrance may bring about the impulse which changes and determines our whole life."
