Ports of Call Gala
An Evening of Fun, Food, and Friendship!
Join us on June 25th
The Maritime Museum invites you to hop aboard for a cruise-themed evening of fun and great food as its popular Ports of Call gala moves to a new time and location this year.
The Museum's flagship fundraising event will take place Friday, June 25 at Gordon Lodge, located off County Highway Q north of Baileys Harbor. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30.
Another new twist this year is an elegant dinner with choices off a set menu beginning with chef's specialty appetizers right through the salad and main courses to dessert. The complete menu for the evening can be found at www.dcmm.org.
Highlighting the cruise theme, entertainment will be similar to what you might find on board a cruise ship. A magician will be performing card tricks; there will be funny-money casino games with professional dealers at the blackjack, roulette and craps tables. People can try their luck at "roulette 50-50" and "ship's wheel of fortune."
As in past years, there will be live and silent auctions featuring some remarkable items, many with a nautical theme. Drawings will take place for two raffles of note involving a tall ship journey from Sturgeon Bay to the Tall Ship Festival in Green Bay on the morning of Aug. 12 and the other for a nutshell pram.
The tall ship raffle includes passage for two on the ship as well as a one-night stay at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay on the night of Aug. 11. Admission to the festival grounds in Green Bay is also included as is transportation back to Sturgeon Bay by the Door County-Green Bay shuttle. Tickets are $5 each and six for $25.
The hand-crafted pram measures 9 ft., 6-in. and has 55-sq. ft. of sail area. The Joel White designed sailboat is quite versatile as a dinghy or tender and features a lapstrake okume plywood hull. Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25.
For those living in the Sturgeon Bay area, round trip transportation to Gordon Lodge is available from Door County Trolley, departing 4:45 p.m. from the Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. The cost is $18 per person.
Advance reservations for the gala are required. Tickets are $75 per person and are available at www.dcmm.org or by calling the Museum at 920-743-5958.

Steel Bridge Songfest and Door County Maritime Museum Present: "The Great Sturgeon Bay Ship Horn Soundoff!"
Steel Bridge Songfest, in concert with the Door County Maritime
Museum, is orchestrating a sonic event the likes of which have never been
heard! One Saturday, June 12, "The Great Sturgeon Bay Ship Horn Soundoff" will officially launch the 2010 Steel Bridge Songfest "Take it to the Bridge" street
festival in Door County's historic Sturgeon Bay.
All in-port Great Lakes ships, the U.S. Coast Guard, Sturgeon Bay's
entire fleet of tugs, the Door County Maritime Museum's newly restored
John Purves tug and all three Sturgeon Bay bridges have been invited to
sound their horns precisely at noon on Saturday, June 12. The event will start with the "Great Lake Salute" (three long blasts
and two short ones), followed by a two-minute jam session in which vessel and bridge operators' creativity will result in a memorable cacophony of sound. Horns will stop at 12:03 p.m., although local dogs might continue their own jam session for a bit longer. More than 100 visiting musicians doubtlessly will work the "concert" into their recordings, which they are producing while in town for the sixth annual Steel Bridge Songfest. The unique soundoff is also likely to be a thrill for members of the working press who are covering the event. You won't want to miss experiencing the first-ever Ship Horn Soundoff with family and friends - and afterward, there's plenty to do with the "Take it to the Bridge" street festival, including food stands, streetside entertainment and all the incredible live music. This is also a great opportunity to visit the Door County Maritime Museum, which recently opened the doors to "Ghosts! Haunted Lighthouses of the Great Lakes," as well as Sturgeon Bay's outstanding galleries and shops.
For more information, call the Steel Bridge
Songfest office at 920-743-5605 or visit SteelBridgeSongfest.org.

Seeking Nominations: Mariner's Award
The Door County Maritime Museum is currently working with the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club to develop a "Mariner's Award" that will recognize an individual who's had a significant, positive, lasting impact on the local maritime community. According to Bob Desh, the museum's executive director, the criteria is inclusive.
"We are seeking nominees who have contributed significantly and positively to the maritime community, thereby improving the quality of life here in Door County, he explained. "Nominees are those special individuals who show concern and consideration for others without regard for personal recognition."
Desh said the museum and yacht club are actively seeking nominations from members of the community. The nominations must highlight the individual's contributions to any component of the Door Peninsula's maritime community. The nomination may recognize a single event/activity, significant contributions over a period of months or years or a lifetime achievement or accomplishment. The nomination must not exceed one double-spaced, type-written page, and it must include the nominee's name and address as well as the nominating person's name, address, phone number and email address.
Please submit nominations to: Door County Maritime Museum, 120 North Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. All nominations must be received by June 25.
The winner will be presented with the Mariner's Award at a special Award Presentation Dinner at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club on Thursday, August 6. The event will commence with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
If you have questions or would like to learn more about the Mariner's Award and nomination criteria, please call the museum at 920-743-5958.

Tug Tour Guides Needed!
The Maritime Museum is seeking volunteer tour guides (docents) to lead daily tours aboard the tug John Purves. The remarkably restored 149-foot vessel has proven to be a huge hit with Museum visitors since tours began in August of 2008. However, due to the tug's appeal, the Museum is in need of additional docents to meet the seven-day-a-week schedule.
The docent script provides for easy training and the opportunity to share a stunning piece of Sturgeon Bay maritime history makes for a gratifying experience. Volunteers are asked to sign up for daily shifts from 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and can work as often as they wish.
If interested, please contact the Museum at 920-743-7826.
