DOT PRESENTING PROGRAM ON REPAIR OF MICHIGAN STREET BRIDGE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Door County Maritime Museum and Friends of the Maritime Museum continue their popular Winter Speakers Series on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Museum in Sturgeon Bay. It's the third program in a series which extends to March 25.
This next program will center on the restoration project currently underway on the Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay. Steve Noel, supervisor of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation regional office overseeing projects in Door, Brown, Oconto and Marinette counties, will give the presentation. Noel has been a practicing engineer with WisDOT for 36 years and will talk about bascule bridges and how they operate as well as the historical aspects of the bridge and what is being down to preserve its historical properties.
The series then continues with a pair of Thursday evening programs in March. On March 4, the spotlight will be on Marine Travelift and its amazing gargantuan 1,000-ton lift. The Museum's Executive Director Bob Desh will present the final program in the series March 25. He will discuss the International Ice Patrol and the role it has played tracking icebergs since being formed in the wake of the Titanic disaster. While in the U.S. Coast Guard, Desh served as the commanding officer of the Ice Patrol.
The Friends of the Door County Maritime Museum is an organization dedicated to assisting the Museum both through fundraising projects and volunteer service. Admission to the program is free. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends. Donations are appreciated.
LANDMARK RESORT'S COMEDY CLUB TO BENEFIT MUSEUM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You can eat, laugh and help a worthy cause all in the same evening when the popular Comedy Club at The Landmark Resort's Carrington Pub & Grill in Egg Harbor will host a benefit show for the Door County Maritime Museum on Thursday night, Feb. 25.

Comedians Bob Jay and Sharon Lacey headline the evening which begins at 6:30 with a buffet dinner to be followed by the show at 8:00. The price of the dinner and show is $20.99 per person. A sailor's hat will be passed for a freewill donation to support the museum.

Jay brings dozens of celebrities and cartoon characters to life in his stand-up performance. He also has mastered numerous sound effects from jet fighters to crashing locomotives and crafted them into a show that has been compared to Billy Crystal and Rich Little. Meanwhile, much of Lacey's comedy comes from her experiences as a former middle school teacher. She freely admits that keeping audiences laughing is a lot more fun that breaking up fights between adolescent boys.

This is a special offering in The Comedy Club series which regularly runs the second Thursday of the month, November through May. Visit www.thelandmarkresort.com for details on upcoming shows in the series.

Ahoy Runners!

   A chance to save a little money and support the Maritime Museum!!

The Door County Half Marathon is making 100 Registrations available for non-profit Fundraising. The Door County Half Marathon was founded to celebrate and benefit the Door County community, and this year organizers have reserved 100 race registrations for area non-profits such as the Door County Maritime Museum to help them raise funds by participating in the 2010 race on May 1. What a great way to start the season off on the right foot with a run in Peninsula State Park and help the Maritime Museum at the same time.

Runners must raise at least $250 in donations for the Maritime Museum in exchange for the free registration in either the 5K or the Half Marathon race. If you are interested in helping the Museum in this special way, please call us at the Museum (920) 743-5958 to receive the Run for A Cause application and pledge form.
