OPENINGS REMAIN FOR MARITIME MUSEUM BOAT BUILDING CLASS

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aspiring boat builders have an opportunity to gain first-hand skills in the age-old craft when the Door County Maritime Museum's annual boat building class gets underway Jan. 23. Only two openings remain for the class, which retains a limited enrollment to enhance the learning experience. Classes are conducted on Saturdays through June.
The 2010 boat is a 14-foot Cosine wherry rowboat. It's a John Harstock design featuring cedar strip construction with elegant lines. The wherry may be viewed on Ray Klebba's White Salmon BoatWorks Web site at www.raysdreamboats.com. Tradition holds that the finished boat will be raffled off as the grand prize to benefit the Maritime Museum at the Door County Classic and Wooden Boat Festival held the first weekend in August. Tuition for museum members is $275 and guest tuition is $350. For additional information or to enroll for the class, call the museum at (920) 743-5958
Annual Anchor Appeal
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We still need your help!!  Our annual Anchor Appeal fundraising efforts continue. Your Martime Museum remains several thousand dollars short of its matching-fund goal of $20,000.  Through the generosity of several dedicated supporters, your donation to the Anchor Appeal will be matched dollar for dollar.  Please consider a tax deductible contribution today!

With your support, 2009 was a great year for the Maritime Museum!  Here is just a sample:

--A comprehensive Historic Structure Report was completed for the Cana Island Light Station and initial restoration work got underway.

--The museum tug John Purves opened for its first full season, hosting over 5,300 visitors.

--New exhibits on the U. S. Life-Saving Service and Pirates of the Great Lakes opened at the Gills Rock museum.
