Building off the success of its first Family Day event last fall, the Door County Maritime Museum announces the creation of Family Week, an event that will actually span two weeks, designed to encourage families to spend some of their Spring Break time at the Museum in Sturgeon Bay. Any children, ages 17 and under, accompanied by a paying adult or adult Museum member will be admitted free to the Museum beginning Saturday, March 28, and continuing through Sunday, April 12. The Museum is a great place to spend some of that vacation time! There will be a children's activity or two in addition to the variety of kid-friendly attractions like the pilot house, periscope and interactives associated with the Freshwater Fury exhibit. While the Freshwater Fury allows visitors to experience the affects of the greatest storm to hit the Great Lakes in 1913, the nuclear submarine periscope offers a fifth story view of the surrounding waterfront. Large-scale models, a striking lighthouse exhibit, boats and engines help to round out the Museum experience. As an added treat, the Family Week offer will extend to the Tug John Purves after it opens for tours on weekends in April. Consequently, children will be allowed to board the tug free when accompanied by a paying or member adult. It should be noted, that a 42-inch height restriction does apply to tug tours. |
