Dear ,
By now you will have received my letter notifying you of the difficult decision I made to leave the Museum to become the Managing Director of the Peninsula Players in Fish Creek.
As this is my final eMari-Times, I want to thank you all again for all of your support over these past 5 1/2 years. You are a wonderful group of individuals who have a passion for this wonderful institution. I am also able to notify you of a familiar face who will be returning to the Museum whilst the board undergoes the search process for a new Executive Director. Jon Gast, former DCMM Executive Director, will be stepping in for the summer months as interim director. I am very thankful that Jon has taken on this role for with him at the helm, the Museum is certain to have another wonderful summer season.
Thank you for your continued support of the Museum's three locations and for the support you have always given me. I will miss you all!
Brian Kelsey

Final Days to Purchase Freighter Raffle Tickets
The Door County Maritime Museum is privileged to have received a special raffle prize from the wonderful folks at Great Lakes Fleet/Key Lakes Inc. - an adventure on a Great Lakes freighter - Edwin H. Gott (1,004'), Edgar B. Spear (1,004'), or Roger Blough( 858')! Trips onboard a working freighter are only available to the shipping companies customers. The only way for the general public to take a cruise on a working Great Lakes freighter is through a raffle.
If you are the winner, you and three friends will set your sails for a 6-1/2 to 7 day voyage. This trip is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to cruise on a working freighter during the Great Lakes sailing season - between June 1 and September 30, 2008. Departure port and dates will be coordinated with the winner and the winner must be flexible concerning scheduling and port of departure/return. The freighter itineraries will be between Duluth, MN to Conneaut, OH or Two Harbors, MN to Gary, IN. Guests must be 21 or older and are required to adhere to all company policies and safety procedures. Accommodations include rooms with 2 twin beds and private bath. Each freighter is equipped with owner's lounges that boast spectacular views. On the Speer and the Gott, your view from the owners lounge is forward across the vessel and on the Blough you look aft at the beautiful water you just traversed.
Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100; proceeds benefit the Museum's annual fund. Tickets may be purchased at any Baylake Bank branch, The Neighborhood Pub in Sturgeon Bay or the Museum's headquarters in Sturgeon Bay or by phoning 920.743.5958. The drawing will take place on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Museum's headquarters (120 N. Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay) at 6:30 p.m. Winner need not be present to win. |

15th Annual Door County Lighthouse Walk

Tickets for this year's annual Door County Lighthouse Walk are still available. The event, held the third full weekend in May, will take place May 17- 18 this year with highlights including the ability to tour the inside of Sherwood Point Lighthouse as well as the ability to climb the tower at Cana Island. Hours of the walk both days are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The Lighthouse Walk weekend kicks off on Friday evening, May 16, with the ever popular Keepers' Kin event. Attendees will enjoy a dessert social with relatives of lighthouse keepers and also have the opportunity to listen to a presentation by Dr. Steve Karges. Dr. Karges is professor of history at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. He has researched and studied the lighthouses of Door County for many years and has written the definitive book on Door County's lighthouses, "Keepers of the Lights." Dr. Karges brings a new and meaningful perspective to Door County's greatest resources. Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI. Tickets for Keepers' Kin include desserts, the presentation, meeting with the kin, and Museum admission.
On both Saturday and Sunday (May 17 & 18), ticket holders will be able to enjoy the "Walk" itself and learn more about this amazing cluster of lighthouses and beacons on the Door Peninsula and surrounding islands. Additionally, individuals have the opportunity to purchase tickets for boat tours which will take them out and around the outer lights of Door County, including Plum Island, Pilot Island & Rock Island, as well as providing "water views" of four mainland beacons including, Old Baileys Harbor Light (aka The Birdcage), Sturgeon Bay Canal Station, Cana Island, and Sherwood Point.
