Dear ,
The winter of 2008 has come and gone and as the daffodils are blooming, I fear to report that we are to get more snow on Monday. The last I checked, winter was supposed to be over! Storms are storms, though, and the one thing we can always be certain of is that we will never be able to stop them. But, we can learn from them and that is exactly what happened following the great storm of 1913! "Freshwater Fury" is getting closer to arriving and therefore please mark your calendars for the "members only" opening celebration taking place on Friday, May 23rd. For those individuals who are not members, the exhibit will open to the public on Saturday, May 24th. Watch your mail for the official invite! And as the saying goes, "Prepare to Be Blown Away!"
Thank you for your continued support of the Museum's three locations!

2007 Freighter Raffle Winner to Speak on His Experience Aboard the Ryerson
Mark you calendars for Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 6 - 7:30 p.m., as Jack Dahler, the winner of last year's Freighter Raffle Adventure will speak on his amazing experience aboard the Edward L. Ryerson. Jack will share his experience as well as many photographs taken during his magnificient journey. The presentation is free and open to the public and will take place in the Museum's Reddin Bridge Room in Sturgeon Bay.
Want to win your very own Freighter Raffle Adventure? Then read on...
The Door County Maritime Museum is privileged to have received a special raffle prize from the wonderful folks at Great Lakes Fleet/Key Lakes Inc. - an adventure on a Great Lakes freighter - Edwin H. Gott (1,004'), Edgar B. Spear (1,004'), or Roger Blough( 858')! Trips onboard a working freighter are only available to the shipping companies customers. The only way for the general public to take a cruise on a working Great Lakes freighter is through a raffle.
If you are the winner, you and three friends will set your sails for a 6-1/2 to 7 day voyage. This trip is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to cruise on a working freighter during the Great Lakes sailing season - between June 1 and September 30, 2008. Departure port and dates will be coordinated with the winner and the winner must be flexible concerning scheduling and port of departure/return. The freighter itineraries will be between Duluth, MN to Conneaut, OH or Two Harbors, MN to Gary, IN. Guests must be 21 or older and are required to adhere to all company policies and safety procedures. Accommodations include rooms with 2 twin beds and private bath. Each freighter is equipped with owner's lounges that boast spectacular views. On the Speer and the Gott, your view from the owners lounge is forward across the vessel and on the Blough you look aft at the beautiful water you just traversed.
Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100; proceeds benefit the Museum's annual fund. Tickets may be purchased at any Baylake Bank branch, The Neighborhood Pub in Sturgeon Bay or the Museum's headquarters in Sturgeon Bay or by phoning 920.743.5958. The drawing will take place on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Museum's headquarters (120 N. Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay) at 6:30 p.m. Winner need not be present to win. |

Boat Donations Accepted!
Do you have a boat that spends more time in storage than in the water? If so, perhaps you would consider donating it to the Door County Maritime Museum! Did you know that in 2007 the funds earned through the sale of donated boats was 2.5% of our total budget shortfall (over $16,000)? If you are thinking of reducing your fleet, interested in helping the Museum, and receiving a tax benefit (the sale amount), please contact Development Director Trudy Herbst 743-5958 or therbst@dcmm.org. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts! |
