story2Reporting 2011 Flood/Storm Damage

The most current available information United Way 2-1-1 has for reporting damage from the recent flooding and storms that affected most of our Southwestern Indiana counties is listed below. Damage reports can be filled out on line. These reports assist FEMA in making decisions regarding federal assistance. Visit this link: http://www.in.gov/dhs/.  Find the link that reads Report Damage Beginning April 18, 2011 and Continuing - Wind and Flooding under topics of the day, and click on April 18, 2011 and Continuing - Wind and Flooding to complete the form.  For assistance, dial 2-1-1.

story3Save the Date! Day of Caring 2011 is Coming Soon.

Agencies will be receiving their request for volunteer opportunities in June, inviting them to participate in our annual Day of Caring. The Day of Caring is a community-wide event that connects businesses and volunteers with nonprofit agencies in need of help. In just one day, more than 800 volunteers donate their time and talents to meaningful projects nonprofits might not otherwise have the resources to accomplish.

We encourage agencies to think big, long-term, and out of the box.  Think of ways volunteers can be engaged in your mission, or how education, income or health needs in our community can be highlighted.  Some activities that occurred last year:

  • Computer training for staff and residents
  • Website development
  • Community education door-to-door blitz
  • Suicide prevention training
  • Stewards of Children workshop (child/sexual abuse prevention)
