|
Greetings!
Hello from United Way! We all know that this has been a trying year for everyone. As more jobs are lost, the need only increases and many people are in situations that they have never faced before. We are offering an interactive event for Young Leaders to better understand what issues low income individuals face. This event will also serve as a much needed food drive for the Salvation Army Food Pantry. Please join us for our next event described below and don't forget your canned goods! We hope to see you there!
Sincerely, Michelle Ricketts United Way of Southwestern Indiana

Poverty Simulation
|
Poverty Simulation, Pizza & Food Drive benefiting Salvation Army Food Pantry Tuesday, November 17th 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. C.K. Newsome Community Center 100 E. Walnut Street, Evansville
Please join United Way and University of Evansville students to experience life on an extremely limited income. The Poverty Simulation is a public awareness tool of United Way's Financial Stability Partnership. For one hour, you will join the 47.4 million Americans living below the poverty line, facing the same challenges of many low-income families trying to survive from month to month with limited resources. The object is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by
hard-working
families every day.
After the Simulation, we'll have pizza, beer and soft drinks and a chance to de-brief and discuss your reactions. People who have participated in the Simulation have claimed it was an eye-opening experience! Special thanks to Old National Bank for graciously sponsoring the event and C.K. Newsome Community Center for hosting the event! This event is free, but RSVPs are required. We will need at least 40 people to make this event work. Please reserve your spot by sending an email to mricketts@unitedwayswi.org. by Friday, November 13th.
We will be collecting items for the Salvation Army Food Pantry at the door. |
Salvation Army Food Pantry
|
This Tuesday and Wednesday the Evansville Salvation Army Food Pantry was forced to close its doors. While the number of families in need of assistance is rising, so is the number of families the Salvation Army Food Pantry serves. Last year they served an average of 2,500 people per month. This year that number has increased to about 4,500 per month. In the last six days, they were able to feed 919 people. The Salvation Army Food Pantry will reopen on Thursday, but they are still in need of donations. The items they need the most are: canned meats, peanut butter, mac & cheese, cereal, dry milk, canned vegetables, rice, soup, canned fruit and crackers.
Thank you in advance for your all of your support!
