What does it mean to LIVE UNITED?
|
Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all people. Connected. Interdependent. United.
We LIVE UNITED when we reach out a hand to one and influence the
condition of all. When we give, advocate and volunteer, we lift up our neighbors and friends.
Spread Twice the Joy this Season with the LIVE UNITED Challenge Gift
An anonymous donor has generously awarded United Way
of Southwestern Indiana with the largest gift in our 86 year history. The LIVE UNITED
$75,000 Challenge Gift is a one-time matching grant that will double the impact of
your donation this holiday!
This
grant will match any new or increased gift (if you have already
given a 2008 gift), dollar for dollar, up to $75,000, given to the general fund
of United Way
of Southwestern Indiana.
We invite you to honor someone you know who
Lives United with your gift. When
you send in your pledge form, please include a brief description about how your
honoree Lives United. We will recognize them at our Annual Meeting in March
2009. When you include your honoree's
address, we will send an acknowledgement to the person you have chosen to honor.
It is the generosity
of this anonymous donor and YOU that is a true example of what it means to LIVE
UNITED. Together, we can create a
brighter future for all of us. Download the pledge form

How I LIVE UNITED
|
by Carolyn Dearmond
Assistant Vice President, Commercial Portfolio Manager
Fifth Third Bank
I've been giving to United Way since I joined the bank in
1993. I
got involved in Big Brothers, Big Sisters and served on the board for 12 years. Being
involved in the organization really opened my eyes to the need for donations
and volunteers in our community.
Last year I became a certified tax preparation volunteer
through United Way's Financial Stability Partnership. I wanted to
find another way to help people, and this program directly
benefited those in need.
I remember helping one young mother in particular.
She had expected to get a small refund, but we found that she could claim a
credit of which she was unaware. It felt
great to be able to help this individual get more money back into her pocket to
use to catch up on her bills.
Now, I realize that my family and I have been blessed and should share
with others who are not as fortunate. My husband and I will raise
our children to be charitable and to understand the importance of giving back
to our community.
That's how I LIVE UNITED.
