Young Leaders United
happeningsUnited Way of Southwestern Indiana
Greetings!

Hello from United Way!

We're happy to present our first event of 2008 - a lunch with CEO Tom Austerman.  Check out the details below.

Also, I've seen some interesting articles about including volunteer work on your resume.  I've included some excerpts and links below.  Does anyone have a great story of how their volunteer work helped with a career opportunity?  If so, let me know and I'll share with the group.

Sincerely,
Sara McGuyer

Volunteer Work on Your Resume

"Be unapologetic about giving space on your resume to volunteering.
Since the whole goal of a resume is to get an interview, think how more interesting your face-to-face conversation will be when you add all those community activities to show who you really are." from Charity Guide, more >

"When possible, the resume should be targeted to a specific position
or employer. For example, when applying for a job as a manager, a Girl Scout
leader could cite her volunteer experience in motivating girls as evidence of her
ability to supervise and lead." from Energize, inc., more >

"Volunteer work, whether in addition to a current job or an activity in between jobs,
shows an employer that you are willing to try new experiences, be involved in your
community and generally demonstrates a willingness to take initiative and make
things happen."  from Monster, more >
