Giving Back

Over the past 10 years homebuilding and land development has been a driving force in the economy.  However, it's no secret that the economy is soft and that many in the land development community are currently experieincing hard times along with those working in other market sectors.  It is truly amazing to see people that are struggling with their own problems continuing to help others.

Here are just a few articles with examples and ideas on how to get informed and involved.

PULTE HOMES HELPS STRIKE OUT HUNGER
FOR THE NORTHERN ILLINOIS FOOD BANK

Pulte PinHeads

Pulte Homes organized a bowling tournament to raise funds for the Northern Illinois Food Bank.  ENCAP Inc. and Ice Mountain Water were sponsors for the June 9th "Strike Out Hunger" event.  In addition to being a sucessful fundraising event, it was a great networking opportunity.  Everyone had a Great Time!!!   This event wouldn't have been a success if it weren't for Pulte's genorosity.

With a total net income close to $6,000.00, this was the second-highest Strike Out Hunger so far.  Using the Northern Illinois Food Bank multiplier ($1=>8lbs/1.3lbs/meal), that would translate to roughly 36,000 meal equivalents that Northern Illinois Food Bank will be able to acquire and distribute, through partner agencies in 13 counties!

Participating Bowling Teams:

McCann Industries Supports Cub Scout Adventure Camp

Adventure CampThe Three Fire and Des Plaines Valley Councils are in the midst of a historic and exciting project for their growth and the future of the Boy Scouts of America.  The project, a joint Cub Scout Adventure Camp, represents a first in Scouting; the Councils have entering a joint venture to engage in the development and operations of a Cub Scout resident camp and a year-round camp for all Scouts at the Adventure Ranch near Rochelle Illinois.

McCann Industries contributed 1 million dollars  to the project which involves the construction of a lake and wetlands that will be used for recreational and educational purposes.  ENCAP, Inc. is pleased to have had the opportunity to design the natural features of the lake with Engineering Enterprises and looks foward to working with the Scouts to complete native landscaping and shoreline protection.

The Cub Scout Adventure Camp that will offer boys aged seven to ten years a chance to learn, have fun and enjoy experiences that will enrich and shape their lives. Through these programs, boys will be encouraged to explore, to observe and to play - and their parents and families will have the opportunity to participate with them, offering a unique way to strengthen their family bonds.  The Adventure Camp is in the middle of an extensive Capital Campaign that include the creation of a lake, wet-lands, and geothermal heating and cooling systems; for more information about the camp and how you can support the project please visit  http://www.cubadventurecamp.org/
Endowment Grant Will Help Students Enter Workforce With Professional Designations

NAHBThe National Housing Endowment (NHE) has awarded an $82,784 grant to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Home Builders Institute (HBI) to create a program that will provide professional designations to students graduating with residential construction management degrees.

The programs will be modeled after a 2008 joint effort with Purdue University that was created through an NHE Homebuilding Education Leadership Program (HELP) grant. NAHB and HBI worked with the university's residential construction management program faculty to integrate NAHB/ HBI course content into existing university curriculum that would then qualify participating students to earn a Certified Green Professional (CGP), Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), or a Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS) designation upon graduation. Eight Purdue University students are slated to earn a professional designation in 2009.

The grant funds will be used to create a similar program at universities that offer housing industry-related degrees and maintain an active NAHB Student Chapter. They will help cover a portion of the fees for students enrolling in the program and expenses for faculty to participate in NAHB's Train the Trainer course.

Garage Sale Helps Feed Starving Children

Feed My Starving ChildrenWheaton local, Debbie Houlihan, recently returned from a trip to Haiti where she volunteered for an organization known as Feed My Starving Children. After seeing the tradegy in Haiti first hand Ms. Houlian has been driven to do more.  Debbie and her daughter routinely volunteer at local chapters to pack food for shipping.  This weekend she organized a multifamily garage sale fwith all proceeds donated to Feed My Starving Chidren.  No pricing was on any of the items so people paid what they thought it was worth with the donation in mind.  All left over items were donated to local charitable resale shops.

The two day sale generated enough revenue to provide 7000 meals in Haiti.  IWe at ENCAP appreciate this effort for two reasons.  1) It raised community awareness and truly helped those who could not help themselves and 2) all those unwanted items were diverted from being fly dumped in empty lots that we are trying to stabilize!

Thank you Debbie, ENCAP salutes you!
