Greetings!

wine in vineyard   Did you know the oldest vineyards in America are located in Virginia?
Did you know that a new wine distributorship has started its business here in Alabama and that they are focusing on Virginia Wines?
And did you further know that they have been gracious enough to allow Wine'd Down to showcase these new wines to the Birmingham market?
We are excited to bring these new wines to you for a complementary wine tasting Wednesday Night.  Make plans now, you do not want to miss out on this one!
Additionally, Friday night's wine tasting promises to be extraordinary as well!  I love Italian wines and we are going to present to you 7 wines; all from different regions of Italy.  This is going to be absolutely fabulous.

HORTON Sparkling Viognier

Served at the White House, this bubbly brut is made in the Methode Champenoise after spending 5 years in the bottle, it's ready to enjoy...now.

Pairs well with anything anytime, but is especially well suited to a brunch menu including fruit, chocolates and oysters.  Let's toast!

BARBOURSVILLE Reisling 2005

A nicely balanced dry white wine, delicate with a charming bouquet of honey and almonds and a clean earthy finish.

Perfect with gouda, light entrees, turkey, fish in cream sauce, sautied scallops or mild curries.

HORTON Petit Manseng

The petit manseng grape has a rich history with French royalty.  This rich full-bodied wine is fragrant with aromas of honey, toasted hazelnuts and a touch of vanilla, creamy on the palate followed by a clean and firm acidic backbone.

Pair with grilled fish, shellfish, lobster, or any spicy food especially Cajun, Indian or Asian cuisine.

JEFFERSON Cab Franc

Combining a light, delicate palate-weight with intense flavors of bright red raspberry and cherry fruit, the Cabernet Franc fruit is tempered by soft white pepper, cinnamon and baking spices.  Polished acids and elegant, satiny tannins round out the finish.

This wine pairs nicely with camembert, roast lamb, grilled chicken or duck, and hearty vegetarian pasta

BARBOURSVILLE Nebbiolo 2004

A true example of the beauty and power of the most acclaimed varietal in Italian viticulture. Elegant and complex with tar, smoke, blackberry and tobacco notes. Full bodied, with a firm, dense structure followed by a seamless and lasting finish. The wine improves with age and turns into a real gem.  Featured in the July 2007 issue of Travel & Leisure Magazine!

"Virginia's best red wine!"

This jewel of the Italian Piedmont pairs well with any Mediterranean foods

JEFFERSON Meritage

Grown in the shadow of Monticello, Intense sweet, red and black fruits flow from the first taste to the finish.  Intermingled are notes of espresso, chocolates on the mid-palate and Provencal herbs on the finish.

A robust wine that pairs well with any hearty dish, especially suited to beef and grilled steak.

JEFFERSONViognier 2006

This classic Viognier ia soft, luscious, and full-bodied, with a pronounced perfume of honeysuckle, apricot and pineapple.  Polished acidity and an underlying minerality add to the wine's complexity and drinking enjoyment.  This extraordinary cuvee will age gracefully for the next 1 to 2 years, developing an additional element of candied orange peel balanced by increasingly linear acids in the mid-palate and finish. Viognier once confined mainly to France's northern Rhone Valley, it is now planted worldwide and thrives as and outstanding varietal of Virginia's terrior.

A nice wine to sip or to pair with slightly spicy pork or chicken dishes.

Tramin  Pinot    Bianco                                     Pale yellow in color with light green reflections, this wine offers persistent aromas of green apple, orange rind, tangerine, and a touch of tropical fruit. The firm, zesty acidity makes this an extremely versatile wine: refreshing by the glass and excellent when paired with grilled chicken and vegetables, crab cakes and shellfish, and sweet & sour Asian food.

Tasca de Almenta Lamuri

Intense ruby red in color, Lamúri offers a lush bouquet of blackberry, mulberry, cherry and sour cherry jam, spices, laurel, cinnamon, vanilla, coffee, licorice and carob. On the palate, this wine is incredibly rich, intense and supple, with velvety tannins framing a refreshing acidity and a medium body. Recommended with mediterranean fare, such as pasta, tagines, roasted lamb, kebabs, and ribs.

Terre de Talama Vermentino                                                                                                     As a result of the hot and sunny climate, Vento offers a round, medium-body that is well balanced by the crisp and mineral aromas typical of Vermentino. This combination of softness and freshness allows for a wide range of food pairings. Vento is recommended with sharp cheese, seafood, antipasti, fresh summer vegetables and grilled fish. The Mediterranean aromas of the sea and the Maremma's countryside can be found in each glass.

Argiolas Perdera                                                                                                              The intense ruby red color of this wine is typical of the Monica grape. Persistent aromas of ripened cherry, cassis, black pepper carry through to the palate and are followed by sweet hints of chocolate and firm tannins. Very vibrant, rich and rustic. An excellent wine with spicy food, pasta with tomato or meat sauces, casseroles, and medium aged cheeses.

La Carraia Orvieto                                                                                                  Luminous and brilliant with greenish reflections. The nose is floral with hints of summer fruits and toasted vanilla and honey. Rich and refreshing on the palate with a full, round finish. A classic accompaniment to seafood. Stands up to fish dishes prepared with sauce.

Maculan Brentino                                                                                                              Deep ruby red with garnet hues, Brentino offers a complex bouquet of ripe berries, currant, and cedar, followed by spicy notes of licorice and wood. On the palate, Brentino is full-bodied and soft with perfectly balanced acidity. Recommended with hearty pasta dishes, roasted and grilled meats, medium-aged and creamy cheeses.

Di Majo  Sangiovese                                                                                                    This Sangiovese exhibits a fresh bouquet of violets, woodland berries, spices and leather. Deliciously smooth, plush and juicy on the palate with loads of ripe fruit, Di Majo Sangiovese is recommended with pasta, pizza, sausages, parmigiana and grilled meats. A tremendous value and one of Winebow's blockbuster.
