Happy New Year!
Here's to a happy, healthy 2011!  Now that you're done with the shopping, cleaning, cooking and celebrating it's time to get back to some "me" time!  The newsletter is finally available for you to download so you can print out a copy and take it with you to your favorite place for relaxation.  Make sure you take your calendar with you so that you can schedule your classes.  A few classes are already close to being full so don't delay! (If you printed a copy of the newsletter when the availability was announced on Facebook you will want to take another look!  There were several additions made to class sessions and other small "tweaks"!)

The Granary Getaway will be upon us in the blink of an eye!  Join Paula, Jody & Mary Kay at the Granary for 4 fun filled, sewing days!  Terry Atkinson's Minnesota Hotdish will be Paula's pattern of choice.  You will love how this complicated looking quilt goes together!  Jody will guide you through the Abbey Bag (a flower pincushion/scrap bag) from Abbey Lane Quilts.  Mary Kay is hard at work on another of her original patterns....to be revealed soon!  Be sure to sign up so you're not left out!  February 26-March 1, 10am-4pm.
Mary Kay's Next Challenge!
Dilithium Crystals As many of you know, our own Mary Kay Davis has been involved in the McCall's Design Star Challenge which has been going on since mid-summer.  She has advanced through each level of competition and in late November learned that she advanced to the final round!  Per the rules, Mary Kay submitted her latest quilt , Dilithium Crystals (pictured left),  to McCall's....the voting will start on January 6.  This round will be the most competitive so she will really need your support!  You may vote one time per electronic device! So....you can vote via your smartphone AND computer!  We will post the link for voting in our next email newsletter as well as on our Facebook page.  The winner is selected by public vote and a panel of judges and will receive a Bernina sewing machine and an article in McCall's Quilting!  Mary Kay appreciates all those who have voted for her in the past and hope that you will continue in this next round.  Good luck Mary Kay....
Pillowcase Challenge Update

Unfortunately we don't believe the AP&Q website reflects the total pillowcases collected around the country.  We encounted website issues when trying to enter our totals and we believe that other shops had the same problems.  Judging by the totals that appear in other shops' emails, the total should be much higher than the 232,000+ indicated on their website.

Two New Block of the Month Programs Begin in February!
Be MerryBe MerryBe Merry / Paula Ivers & Julie Cefalu

Paula and Julie have teamed up again for another fun-filled block of the month program for 2011. This year's quilt is called "Be Merry" and was designed by the talented girls at Bits 'n Pieces. There are 3 size options included in the pattern-use the same blocks to make a 60" x 75" quilt or 2 wall quilts measuring 40" x 70"; the pattern also includes 3 border options! The quilt is Winter themed featuring blocks of snowflakes, trees, a snowman, stars and more. If you prefer an Autumn look, Paula and Julie will offer alternate blocks featuring leaves, pumpkins, and birds. This program is designed for the advanced beginner to intermediate quilter and will focus on precision cutting, piecing and pressing so that this quilt and all your future quilts will go together in a snap. You will learn fool-proof accurate rotary cutting skills, how to obtain the perfect ¼" seam allowance, and pinning and pressing techniques. In addition, Paula and Julie will also share with you other quick, easy and accurate methods for making elements of various other quilt blocks (e.g., flying geese, half-square triangles) which you may not even know exist! This is the perfect opportunity to hone your quilting skills, learn new techniques for faster and easier piecing and make this festive quilt under the guidance of Paula and Julie! Classes generally meet on the first Friday afternoon or Saturday morning of each month with a few exceptions. If you have to miss a class, no problem-make-up sessions are available. One-time fee of $100 for 11-month program; pattern sold separately.

Two Sessions to choose from:

Friday, 2-4pm (Feb. 4, Mar. 4, April 1, May 6)

OR
Saturday, 10am-12pm (Feb. 5, Mar. 5, April 2, May 7)

(Remaining meeting dates for 2011 available upon request.)

Fall BOMSpring BOM

Changing Seasons /
Angela Bonomo

Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring are Linda Howell's 33" x 45" Changing Seasons Block of the Month wall hangings. One of the blocks in each season's wall quilt features a quaint house and tree which change with each season; other blocks of seasonal motifs are unique to each wall quilt. We'll begin with Spring in February and move on to the Fall wall quilt half way through the year. You will learn various techniques in machine piecing and fusible machine appliqué-or hand appliqué if you prefer. Tulips, a bunny and a pieced basket with yo-yo flowers are a few of the designs you will be creating for Spring. Let's do something different and make a seasonal wall hanging that you will get to use every time the seasons change. Members will receive a kit for that month's section of the 33" x 45" project. If monthly meetings don't work for you, you can pick up your kits at the shop or they can be mailed. Membership fee is $25 per month and is offered by automatic credit card billing only. The fee includes your monthly class, quilt pattern and fabric for each of the blocks. Improve your hand or machine appliqué skills with an expert! Classes begin in February and meet on the third Saturday morning of each month from 10am-12pm.
