What a great time we had at Mt Hermon this year for our annual celebration. The theme was Recharge, and I was.
Thanks to Rene Schlaepfer, Dan Baker and the Twin Lakes Church music team. Great job, you guys!
Rene gave three talks that spoke straight to the heart of many of us. His themes included: When Your Discouraged, When Your Church Needs Change, and When You're Burning Out.
Here are some of my top take-aways:
- Jesus' church is built with average people-like Peter and like me.
- Jesus' church is built to last forever-you can't kill it! (That was good news.)
- If you don't feel uncomfortable doing something new, you're not doing something new.
- When people are asked to do something new, the first thing they think about is: what do I have to give up, not what do I have to gain. (We perceive change as loss.)
- Change agents need protectors. (That's true for you if you are the change agent. It is also true if you are commissioning someone else to be the change agent.)
If you were not able to be with us a Mt Hermon, or if you want to take another listen, Rene's three talks on Recharge, and my talk on the Vision of NextGen Churches are available online. Go to www.nextgenchurches.com to get the details.
And before you step away from your computer, put May 23-25 on your calendar. Our Staff Retreat is coming and want you to be a part of it. We're planning some great stuff for you and your staff, whether they are paid or volunteers.
