Spotlight: GSEP Goes to the White House

GSEP was selected to represent the National Girl Scouts organization at the White House on June 20 in a special celebration of Title IX, which since 1972 has mandated that no individual in the United States shall be excluded from participation in any athletic activity or education program based upon gender. Seven accomplished Girl Scouts from eastern Pennsylvania, including four Gold Awardees and three Girl Scout Advisors to the Board of Directors, joined CEO Natalye Paquin in participating in the Title IX anniversary celebration.

They participated in a mentorship session with White House representatives Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama and Chair of the White House Council on Women & Girls and Tina Tchen, Executive Director of the White House Council on Women & Girls.

100th Anniversary Highlights

Rock the Mall

Many GSEP members and volunteers enjoyed "Rock the Mall" on June 9, 2012 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Girls who reached their goal of 1,000 or more packages of Girl Scout cookies sold were invited to join Girl Scouts across the nation on this trip to the world's largest Girl Scout Sing-Along. This was one of the biggest anniversary celebration events on the east coast!

The Great Girl Scout Hike

GSEP is participating in the Great Girl Scout Hike through several Appalachian Trail Section Hikes, offered in conjunction with the Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club.  BMECC is a local climbing club that has been advocating for the preservation and enjoyment of the Great Outdoors! From the inception of the Appalachian Trail, BMECC has helped to build and maintain their 65-mile section of the AT including its cabins, shelters, monuments, and rest stops between Pennsylvania's Lehigh and Susquehanna Rivers!  You must register ahead of time to participate in these section hikes. Click here for more information about each hike and how to get involved.
