Adding New Meaning to a 'Girl Scout Volunteer'
aon_svc_dayWhat a way to show they care! GSEP
was thrilled to be on the receiving end of some generous corporate support in recent weeks when two companies put their workforces to work away from their offices. As part of its global "Aon United REDy Day" campaign, employees from Aon Corporation visited GSEP headquarters at the Shelly Ridge Service Center in Miquon (Montgomery County). In the heat of summer, willing volunteers re-painted the kitchen and fence, weeded and raked, replenished mulch, and more. "Everything was so well-organized on your end that it made our day all about the projects," said Aon organizer Patricia Peters.

Vanguard's Jeanne Hayden had a similar reaction. To help kick off her company's annual United Way campaign, she and a team of co-workers (below) spent their 'Day of Caring' at GSEP's Camp Tohikanee (Quakertown). After hosting hundreds of resident-campers all summer, Site Ranger Chris Dolan had a full list of chores for the volunteers. "It was the smoothest project I've ever had!" said Jeanne. "All we had to do was show up and work hard!"
Volunteers of all ages joined Vanguard's United Way Day of Caring at GSEP's Camp Tohikanee.

2010 Fall Kick-off Meeting Wrap-Up
More than 250 volunteers from throughout the Council attended one of last month's Fall Kick-Off events to get ready for the upcoming Program Year. With a renewed commitment to deliver a Journey experience for every girl in 2010-11, GSEP staff gave each Service Unit Manager a Journeys Tool Kit (also available online) to help troop leaders adapt and incorporate the resources into their activities. To give everyone the support they need for successful programming, GSEP will answer all volunteer questions via email ( and a Journeys Hotline (484.920.3055, or toll-free at 888.564.4657, ext.1459). Based on feedback collected at the Kick-offs, the GSEP Membership Team will launch a series of professional development opportunities tailored for volunteer needs and goals. Attendees also reviewed the 2010-11 Volunteer Essentials and Safety-WiseŽ Updates and learned about plans for the 2010-11 Product Program and Family Partnership Campaign. More information is available on the Adult Education page of the website.

Camp Survey Re-opened through November 1
The last of the Property Town Hall Meetings was held to present Phase One findings of the GSEP Camp Property Assessment (click here to view the presentation slides). Based on numerous requests from attendees at the sessions and the Spring Delegate meeting, the 2009 Camp Survey has been re-opened through November 1, 2010. Click here for Individual survey (Girl Scout members, volunteers, parents and non-members); click here for Troop survey (girls and troop leaders). Those who have attended camp as both an individual and as part of a troop, are asked to complete both surveys. Online completion of the survey is preferred to facilitate efficient data analysis, but printed copies are available at each Service Center and can be secured through Membership Managers and Service Unit Managers. Anyone who has attended a GSEP camp, and parents/guardians of girls who have attended a camp program, are encouraged to complete the survey, except those who responded last year (to confirm accurate data analysis). Instead, send additional and subsequent feedback to (or by mail to GSEP, P.O. Box 27540, Philadelphia, PA 19118, ATTN: Property Committee).
