ashley_tsungA Passport to Travel
Girl Scouts of USA's Destinations program offers Scouts aged 11-17 a passport to travel and the opportunity to explore the world outside their windows. Girls are selected to attend as individuals based on an application process that includes securing personal references and an essay about their values, leadership skills and experiences during time spent away from their families. Destination categories include international, outdoor, science, apprenticeship and other experiences that range from two days to
3 weeks.

Nearly 30 girls from Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania were selected to attend destinations that included a multi-sports program in Ireland, a service challenge in Costa Rica, expedition-based trips in Peru and Honduras, a fast-track aeronautics experience in Huntsville, Alabama, and a Rock-n-Wilderness excursion in Minnesota.

Eleventh-grader Ashley Tsung from Troop #7808 in Jenkintown (Montgomery County) was one of 12 girls from around the world who attended Caribbean Land and Sea in Puerto Rico in August. The girls went caving, hiked through rainforests, toured San Juan, and experimented with the largest radio telescope on the planet. Ashley's trip was funded through the Cookie Program.

Shown above drinking her first coconut, Ashley said, "The counselors and girls I met were such amazing people. One of my favorite parts was the Arecibo Observatory, since I'm a huge James Bond fan and the telescope was featured in the film GoldenEye. I also liked snorkeling and seeing all the tropical fish. I had such a great time!"

ServSafeŽ Registration: You Need to Know!

Camps that must meet these requirements are Hidden Falls, Laughing Waters, Mosey Wood, Tohikanee, Tweedale and Wood Haven.

ServSafeŽ classes are offered regularly by the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association (PRA). As a PRA Select Chapter Member, GSEP is entitled to a discounted rate of $85 for the training. To take advantage of the discount, type Girl Scouts of Eastern PA in the Company Name section of the registration form; there, you will also find a schedule of upcoming training sessions.
