Meet 'Person of the Week' Sue Frederick
Susan A. Frederick was named 'Person of the Week' in a recent edition of
The Reading Eagle, in part for her 15-year commitment to Girl Scouts as an adult volunteer. She started volunteering at the request of her daughter, Nicole, when she became a Girl Scout upon entering 1st grade. "At that point, I just started out as one of those moms who said 'I'll just help out once in a while,'" she said.

Today--in addition to working as an administrative billing specialist at Allied Building Products--Sue oversees 31 troops as a Service Unit manager in Berks County, supervises cookie sales, meets with three different troops twice a month, runs sleepovers for troops at the Berks County Historical Society,
and is a past member of the Gold Award Nominating Committee.

Through Girls Scouts, she has been able to help other organizations and charities. She and Nicole, now 21 years old and a senior at Lebanon Valley College, also run a summer program at Laurel Run Park, in Muhlenberg Township, for girls entering kindergarten. "This is the best thing about Girl Scouts: the connection that my daughter and I made," she said.

Sue's message to others who are considering getting involved? "You don't have to have a lot of time... If you have that one hour a week, do it because
you will get so much satisfaction... You'll get such rewards."

Enter your Troop projects in the PSATS Youth Award Program
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) hosts an annual event, the Youth Award Program, which recognizes youth groups that make valuable and lasting contributions to their communities. Projects must benefit Townships of the Second Class (those governed by Boards of Supervisors), be nominated by the Association of Township Officials in the entrant's county, and be submitted by the local Board of Supervisors to the president of the County Association of Township Officials by September 15. For a copy of the guidelines and an entry form, visit the PSATS website, call PSATS at 717-763-0930, or contact your County Association of Township Officials or county Cooperative Extension Service office. Become an advocate for a Girl Scouts
100th Anniversary Commemorative Coin
Because of direct outreach to Congressional offices from Girl Scouts across the country, 37 U.S. Senators and 150 Representatives have co-sponsored the Girl Scouts Centennial Commemorative Coin Act. To pass the Coin Act, an additional 67 Senators and 290 Representatives are needed to co-sponsor the legislation by the end of September. Only two coins are approved by Congress each year, and the competition is fierce. If your representative has not yet co-sponsored the legislation, send another email to remind them to do so. Click here to determine your district's Congressional representatives, and tell your friends and family to sign up at GirlScouts4girls.org to support the legislation.

Girl Scouts take center-stage in Pocono Business Journal
Pocono Business Journal's August issue has a centerspread article and sidebar with a professional profile on Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.
It features photos from Carbon County troops and Girl Scouts, including one of Gabrielle Augustine with the mural she painted at the Palmerton Area Library to earn her Gold Award. The article's interview with CEO Ann Meredith highlights the success of the merger and focuses on running a non-profit organization in a way that for-profits would envy. Excerpts can be found online at www.pbjonline.com

Board of Directors publicity begins with Ann Thornton Field announcement
The election of Ann Thornton Field as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors

Camp-enrollment story gets a double-hit!
In its 10 pm broadcast on July 21, WFMZ-TV 69 put viewers on the lookout for The Reading Eagle's next-day story about enrollment increases at Girl Scouts summer camps. The three-part photo feature visits Camp Wood Haven and Camp Laughing Waters, reviews alternative programs for under-served youngsters in Reading, and reminds parents that it's not too late to register their kids. Quoted are Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania CEO Ann Meredith, Camp Wood Haven director Michele Bement, Berks County membership manager Cathy Ganter, and young campers from near and far.

Mosey Wood Campers make the front page
Campers at Camp Mosey Wood made the front page last Monday in a full-color story, 'Discovering key life lessons.' The Times News interviewed Robyn Goldman, COO/CFO of GSEP, and some of the young campers.

Local feature includes national perspective
'Building a better Girl Scouts,' a fabulous feature with photos, ran in the Bucks County Courier Times and The (Doylestown) Intelligencer, and was posted on PhillyBurbs.com! The story features quotes from Girl Scouts of USA executives, Ann Meredith and Joanne Morelli of Middletown, a leader of co-op Troop 2533.

Merger success story continues with Ann Meredith guest editorial

In a key editorial in the Philadelphia Daily News, GSEP CEO Ann Meredith used the Council's 2007 merger to convey the merits of merging non-profit organizations that share similar missions. Stay tuned for more coverage on
the topic.

Both Hospital Corpsmen are part of an embedded training team that is preparing the Afghan National Army in the Trauma Assistance Program. Their one-year assignment for the Combined Security Transition Command in Afghanistan helps train the Afghan National Security Forces to bring self-sustaining peace and stability. Prior to their deployment, the Corpsmen completed three months' training in the U.S.

What Do You Want at Your GSEP Camps?
The GSEP Property Committee of the Board of Directors is beginning a study of our camp properties, and we need your help. A survey will be available by this Friday, July 24, asking what you like and what you want at GSEP's nine camp properties. We are asking girls, parents, volunteers and non-members to participate in this survey. Please look for a special invitation before the end of the week. Your feedback will help the Property Committee determine
the best uses for all
