Greetings!
For me, August smells like fresh tomatoes. I like to eat, peel and preserve them. Last summer our local tomatoes suffered a terrible blight and we received very few from our CSA farm (so instead I ate a lot of zucchini). I am very grateful for this year's crop and I cannot wait to start canning.
It came to me the other day that we are all just a bunch of tomatoes. Some years we "got it", some years we don't. Some days we're "on it", some days we're not. Embrace the joyous moments for they are fleeting. Don't dwell on the stressful moments for they too shall pass.
So, enjoy your tomatoes this August for who knows if they will be around next year. ( hint: add a bit of salt and a drizzle of olive oil... yum) Namaste,

I feel so lucky to have found Verge Yoga. While I had been doing yoga for several years, I was never able to make much progress. The friendly and encouraging atmosphere of Verge has enabled me to realize my long-held intention to establish a regular practice, a gift for which I am most grateful. The benefits are truly inestimable. Now I depend upon yoga as a kind of physical, mental, and spiritual hygiene and feel out of sorts if I miss more than a few days.
I have read many student and teacher profiles of people who have been life-long athletes, participating in a variety of sports at the competitive level. That's not me. I have never much enjoyed exercise or been good at sports but, one of my favorite things about Verge Yoga is the real physical challenge of the classes. It is definitely a workout. For me, a combination of Stationary and Flow classes is optimum and I try to fit in both during any given week. Since I also value the more reflective and meditative aspects of the practice, I applaud Cara for expanding the studio offerings to include meditation instruction and Yin Yoga. So, I offer a big thanks to the teachers and staff at Verge for supporting my practice.

Dan Thompson | I'm writing this on the first day of summer, enjoying the wonderful experience of the seasonal change we have in this area. We just survived the worse winter, snow-wise, on record and now we are in the nice steamy days of summer. Every living thing around us constantly changes to adapt to the seasons. Ask yourself, have you stopped from your busy routine, sat somewhere and just taken the time to notice things? Lately I've been sitting on my back porch at dusk watching the lightening bugs come out for their nightly romp with each other, and I think it is the coolest thing watching them slowly rise up to the tree tops. My whole neighborhood just becomes one big twinkly light show.
What does this have to do with yoga you may ask? Next time you are in class, in a pose on your mat, look for complete stillness in your mind and body. Notice how your breath affects the pose. Notice the drops of sweat coming off your nose. In stillness, notice any energy you feel coming from your body and perhaps from other folks in the room. Draw from it if needed or share your energy with the yogi on the next mat. Choose not to struggle, but to experience, learn and grow stronger from your time on your mat. We are all connected on this planet. Allow yourself to be still so you can feel the energy and experience the life we all share together. This is just one of the many gifts we receive from yoga.
Peace everyone.
