Greetings!
In reading back on past Verge Yoga newsletters, I came across this bit from our edition from July 2008. The message still rings true to me! Read on...
Ah summer, you love it and you hate it. Routines get blown to pieces, wet towels are everywhere and our personal time gets snatched away by yet another barbecue. It's interesting to listen to those in our community at Verge Yoga. We all say the same things, "Can't get to the 9:30 am during the summer, no more weekend classes for me... yada, yada, yada." I am convinced that consistency is the key to maintaining balance in our lives. My advice to everyone, including myself, is to try to get on your mat whenever and wherever you can. Your discipline can grow stronger over the summer if you commit yourself to being flexible about where and when you practice. Verge Yoga offers plenty of summer classes. Come when you can. Mix up Stationary, Verge Athlete and Flow classes and mix up your teachers. If you are on vacation, bring your yoga mat with you. Find a local class, podcast or on-line class. You can also jump on your mat for 15 minutes of poses and feel great afterwards. Instead of allowing this summer to rock you off balance, stay focused on how you can maintain a daily practice of yoga and meditation. With a bit of consistency, you may just find some joy in shuffling your kids around town and some peace in seeing those wet towels on the floor! I wish you all a wonderful summer. Namaste,
Cara Bradley, cscs, e-ryt Director |

"I don't 'do' yoga." How many times have I said that! So how is it that I am now at Verge Yoga 3 times a week?
Hot rooms, weak wrists and a stiff body along with a general disinterest in my spinning, stepping, and weight lifting routine seemed to say give it up. I did, until the 42 mile Five Borough Bike ride was on my calendar and I needed to prepare. That's when I saw the Brand New Beginner card at the coffee shop and friends, Verge regulars, gave the final push with their encouragement.
Not only was it a wonderful physical workout, the focus and concentration component allowed my mind to feel released as well. It wasn't until the winter when we began our bike training that I appreciated how strong yoga made me.
This May, as we were climbing up the Verrazano-Narrows bridge, the fourth bridge of the ride, I heard a voice inside saying, "Breath into the discomfort," and over I went. Yoga at Verge prepared me in a way that no other workout could. I was ready and confident both physically and mentally.
Each practice ends with rebirth which is exactly how I feel. As I exit my practice I feel renewed and more available to the people I love. Thank you to my buddies who asked me to reconsider yoga.

Jane Rosato | I teach yoga. It is more than "nice", "cool", or "that's great"; it is a blessing.
Yoga came into my life at a chaotic, busy and stressful time of decision making and obstacles to overcome. I kept coming back to the mat for the immediate physical benefits but soon learned I was getting a new look at life, balancing the chaos. I didn't just "handle" what life threw at me, I embraced life. This discipline became such a powerful path for me I decided I needed to teach.
My teaching and yoga practice are synergistic, they fuel and encourage each other. There are four elements I gain from teaching and from practice: insight, compassion, understanding and patience. I use what I learn on my mat to teach and to keep me fully present for my students. When we are fully present to our lives we are able to meet our full potential mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Thank you to all who have blessed me with your presence on the mat next to me or in my class. I am a yoga teacher, I am blessed. Peace. |
