Greetings!

Olympic RingsI am an Olympic junkie.  I never tire of hanging out in someone else's "thrill of victory or agony of defeat".  I love to watch sports but I am unabashedly addicted to the Olympics.

Our Olympians share their passion, focus and enthusiasm with us. For two weeks they whisper in our ears motivating words of possibility.  They embody both miracle and tragedy.  They are the result of what we can achieve when we decide to flat out "go for it".

Olympians are focused.  I feel a tangible energy when I observe someone in such a state of supreme focus. It touches me to the bone.  It is as if they are transmitting their presence and their passion to me right through the screen. It is as if they are reminding me that I too can achieve great things when I am willing to sacrifice and commit. It is infectious and I can't get enough of it.

So now you know where I've been for the past two weeks. I've been filling up on focus in front of the TV.  I've cheered on every athlete from every corner of the planet.  I've been in heaven.

Go World!

Student Spotlight:  Tony Chase

tony chaseMy first visit to Verge was not too spiritual.  It was a Saturday morning in January, before dawn and below zero. I walked from the Arctic parking lot  into what felt like a tropical rainforest in Studio Two. Soon after the opening bell, my K-Mart mat began to float around in  its own little moat of sweat.  The sturdy German instructor was providing us with mystical Swami cues: "...Breath into the awareness of the space as the vertebra peel apart opening one by one..."

My thoughts were on a different plane:  "So this is what infarction feels like.  I wonder if Cara gves you a refund if you die?" And yet:  The final position was one I felt comfortable in, the aptly named "Corpse Pose".

For some reason I kept coming back.  First once a week, then twice, then once a day.  The state of mind which could be called "The Mat State" seems to leak into every other facet of life. I read more carefully, concentrate better, sleep more soundly, open fire less often on other motorists of the Main Line.

The hour long practice, like a tea bag in hot water, subtly suffuses the rest of the day. It leads to what could be called "Yoga Episodes": watching a red-tailed hawk as it surveys all of winter from the hemlock tree.  Some kind of marvelous overall healing happens here.  I don't pretend to know how it works, I just know that it does.

Staff Spotlight:  Frank Schneider, ryt

Frank When I began the practice of yoga, I approached it in a neutral manner, open-minded, and with an open heart. I quickly realized that yoga was different than anything I had ever done in my life. Yoga is a gift and a tool to humankind. Cherish it. Live it. Preserve it.. . and buy lots of towels!

Frank is our on-staff German meister. His example of studentship is one for us all to follow. Frank is a graduate of the Verge Power Yoga/Empowered Yoga Teacher Training Program.

Frank has extensive experience in fields-and-tracks and in long-distance running. He competed in the German national championships during his youth and has been active ever since. Although he studied meditation during high school, Frank jumped into the Verge Yoga Brand New Beginner Series in August 2006 and since then, never looked back.

Frank is a web business technology expert at SAP Americas Inc., has several degrees in the sciences, is a trained Geologist, and lives in Ardmore. He has a passion for photography, enjoys housekeeping, and likes to hike in Scotland (in any weather condition).

Reflexology, a zone therapy technique of manipulating the feet to affect health and well-being, traces its roots to China some 5000 years ago.  Many changes have occurred in this ancient massage technique evolving through and with acupressure, acupuncture and meridian therapy.  It is still widely practiced throughout the world. Be prepared to learn the how and why of this wellness technique and perhaps have a chance for hands on demonstration.  Rose Pannella-Saha is a Massage Therapist, Esthetician, and Reiki master.  Her hands-on healing practice includes thai yoga massage and reflexology.
