| Greetings! |
Joy to the world... yada, yada, yada. Here we go again headed straight into December. I can hear it now. This year is going to be different. This year I am not going to stress about the holidays. This year I am not going to overspend, overeat, over-drink, or over-(fill in the blank).
I want to tell you that this year can be different. This year you all have another year of yoga practice under your belt. This year, you are one year stronger in your ability to observe yourself, to make conscious choices and to recognize habitual actions and thoughts. You can do it. You can break old habit of stressing through the holidays. You can make this the most joyous and playful December ever!
One of my favorite words in sanskrit is lila. It means magical or divine play. It means to be creative without the worry of failing or to marvel at the beauty of nature. Lila means to be so focused and in the present moment that time stands still. You've felt it on your yoga mat, why not try bringing it into your life?
Thomas Merton wrote, "This day will never come again" and I add that this holiday season will never come again. So instead of worrying about buying the perfect gift or having things "just so" at home (no one is judging you anyway), perhaps you can pause more and soak in the wonder of the season. Less stress, less perfection, more lila. Sounds good to me.
I wish you all a bit of light-hearted and joyful play this month. Remember that this December will never, ever come again. My hope is that you enjoy this one like never before.
Happy Holidays,

| Inspirational Quote - Speaking on Lila |
In his book, Free Play, Stephen Nachmanovitch wrote: There is an old Sanskrit word, lila, which means play. Richer than our word, it means divine play, the play of creation, destruction, and re-creation, the folding and the unfolding of the cosmos. Lila free and deep, is both the delight and enjoyment of this moment, and the play of God. It also means love. Lila may be the simplest thing there is - spontaneous, childish, disarming. But as we grow and experience the complexities of life, it may also be the most difficult and hard-won achievement imaginable, and its coming to fruition is a kind of homecoming to our true selves. |

We should all play with this kind of ultimate abandon. Take a peek. It is only 50 seconds long.

Take your yoga practice deeper, Literally! Yin Yoga allows us to heal our joints and deep connective tissue through specific series of long held passive poses. Tugging and Pressurizing the ligaments and tendons, yin increases cellular metabolism, enabling the tissues to absorb nutrients and dispose of waste efficiently. This means connective tissue will be less acid, less prone to inflammation, and more flexible, juicy, and limber. |
