STANDUP ACT UPDATE
April 29, 2011

H.R. 1515 Sponsors Bring Attention to the STANDUP Act

On Wednesday, April 20, STANDUP Act sponsor Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) held a press event at a high school in his district announcing the introduction of the STANDUP Act and bringing attention to the issue of teen driving.  The event was held on the 17th birthday of Rep. Hultgren's son, himself a teen driver.

At the event, Rep. Hultgren said of the STANDUP Act, "With every life we save, this is worth it.  Even if we save just one life - although I think it will save thousands."  Several members of the Saferoads4teens Coalition were involved in the event, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Safety Council.

Also last Wednesday, STANDUP Act sponsor Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) issued a press release reconfirming his strong support for stronger laws to protect every teen in every state.

The Saferoads4teens Coalition thanks Rep. Hultgren and Rep. Bishop for their dedication to reducing teen crashes, preventing injuries, and saving lives.
