Stronger GDL laws go into effect in Michigan
Enhancements to Michigan's Graduated Driver Licensing law went into effect on March 30. The new law includes the following provisions:
- a passenger restriction prohibiting more than one non-related passenger younger than age 21 for the first year after receiving a "Level 2" (intermediate stage) license (Michigan did not previously have a passenger restriction for novice teen drivers)
- a nighttime driving restriction prohibiting unsupervised driving between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless traveling to or from work for the first year after receiving a "Level 2" (intermediate stage) license (the previous nighttime driving restriction was limited to the hours from midnight to 5 a.m.)

Members of Congress want to hear from YOU
The most powerful and persuasive way to educate lawmakers about the STANDUP Act is through personal stories, particularly stories from parents who have lost a child in a teen driving related crash and people who have survived a teen driving crash.
If you or someone you know has a story about a teen driving crash that you would be willing to share, please contact Jenny Cheek at the Saferoads4teens Coalition by clicking here or calling 202-408-1711.
