STANDUP ACT UPDATE

STANDUP Act gets strong support in Tennessee

Two editorials supporting the STANDUP Act recently ran in two Tennessee newspapers,  The Tennessean and The Paris Post-Intelligencer.

The Tennessean editorial clearly endorsed the idea of delaying learner's permits until age 16 and said, "If the proposal would just save one life, it would be worth it."  They went on to encourage people to contact members of Congress in support of the STANDUP Act: "Stand up and let your representatives in Washington know you want a higher driving age and support teen safety."

The Paris Post-Intelligencer said, "Congress should give [the STANDUP Act] a good, thorough look and then pass the legislation."

SADD National Conference

The Saferoads4teens Coalition participated in the 2010 national conference of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), held June 27-30 in Orlando, Florida.

Teen driver safety and the STANDUP Act were the subject of an exhibit booth and a workshop presented by the Saferoads4teens Coalition.  Many conference participants attended the workshop and signed up to receive the Saferoads4teens Coalition weekly e-update.

Welcome to all the SADD members who have joined the Saferoads4teens Coalition!

U.S. Capitol Building Have YOU taken action yet?

Thank you for supporting the STANDUP Act and the Saferoads4teens Coalition!

The Safe Teen And Novice Driver Uniform Protection (STANDUP) Act is federal legislation that would compel states to strengthen their laws for novice teen drivers, often called Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws.
