The May 18 issue of Politico featured a discussion of the Safe Teen And Novice Driver Uniform Protection Act and an interview with STANDUP co-sponsor Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).

Who is safer:  teen drivers or older drivers?

This week USA Today ran an article from the AOL Auto Blog titled "Are seniors or teens safer drivers? The surprising answer."  Many people erroneously believe that older drivers are more dangerous than teen drivers.  Citing evidence from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the article clearly demonstrates that young drivers ages 15 - 20 have much higher crash rates than drivers ages 64 - 69.

The Safe Teen And Novice Driver Uniform Protection (STANDUP) Act is federal legislation that would compel states to strengthen their laws for novice teen drivers, often called Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws.
