New laws pass in Kentucky and Georgia
The legislatures in both Kentucky and Georgia have passed new laws regarding use of electronic communications devices while driving.
The legislation in both states bans all drivers from reading or sending text messages while behind the wheel. It also prohibits all drivers under age 18 from any non-emergency use of a phone or other electronic communications device.
In Kentucky, this law (HB 415) was signed by the governor on April 12. In Georgia, the legislation (SB 360) has passed the House and the Senate and is expected to be signed by the governor soon.
