Maryland legislature considers stronger GDL legislation
 
A bill to strengthen the state's Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL)laws has been introduced in the Maryland House of Delegates.  House Bill 1221, the Maryland Safe Roads for Teens Act, will have a hearing in the House Environmental Matters Committee on Tuesday, March 9.

More co-sponsors join the STANDUP ACT
 
H.R. 1895, the Safe Teen And Novice Driver Uniform Protection (STANDUP) Act gained two co-sponsors in recent weeks:

Saferoads4teens Coalition meetings on Capitol Hill promoting the STANDUP Act
 
Members of the Saferoads4teens Coalition have had several recent meetings with offices in the House of Representatives, urging members to co-sponsor H.R. 1895, the STANDUP Act:

A newly released report includes the following highlights about teens' driving attitudes and behaviors
 
Teens still feel "it's them, not me" when it comes to aggressive driving.
 
  • A majority of teens (65%) are confident in their own driving skills
  • 77% of teens admit they have felt unsafe with another teen's driving
  • 82% of teens want to be known as a safe/skilled driver
  • Only 23% of teens agree that most teens are good drivers

The Safe Teen And Novice Driver Uniform Protection (STANDUP) Act is federal legislation that would compel states to strengthen their laws for novice teen drivers, often called Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) laws.
