HEALTH CARE TIP OF THE WEEK From healthier vending machine options to insurance coverage for tobacco cessation, worksite wellness can cut across many different areas-and in the face of growing healthcare costs and healthcare reform, is something that more businesses may be starting to explore. In order to better understand the perceptions, practices, and barriers to worksite wellness, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) will be holding a focus group with small businesses on May 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. It'll be an informal discussion, and will cover various issues, including: - Existing wellness programs for employees, as well what led to the development of these programs
- Ways employers assess if wellness programs work
- Barriers to worksite wellness
- Materials and support on worksite wellness that would be helpful for employers
It will be held at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH), which is located at 42-09 28th Street, Queens, NY 11101. NYC DOHMH is a three-block walk from the Queensboro Plaza stop, which is the first stop in Queens on the N and Q lines. The 7, E, M, and G trains are also close-by. Your participation will provide critical input on the role of worksite wellness within the business community. We look forward to seeing you there!
