    Thirty students from J.W. Johnson School joined Parkway Partners community gardeners in planting a butterfly garden at the Governor's Mansion in May. Johnson School is the location of the first community/ schoolyard garden in the city and the interaction is receiving accolades for support its to the Carrollton neighborhood.

    Planting has begun at a garden in Gentilly at 5240 Vermillion Street through a lease agreement between the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority, Parkway Partners and the Filmore Gardens Neighborhood Association. Community partners also include the Beacon of Hope.

    The Guerrilla Garden in the 9th ward had a grand unveiling in May. On hand were partners that included: the Backyard Gardner's Association, Parkway Partners, Hands on New Orleans, NOFFN, the Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development, the Lower Ninth Ward Village Community Center and Lowernine.org.

    New Community Garden Under Way

    A community garden is being developed at 7500 Garfield Street; anyone interested in participation in the planning and building of a new garden in the Uptown Triangle neighborhood is welcome to get involved in the process. Future gardeners who put in "sweat equity" will receive first priority for garden plots. Please contact Renee Allie, Urban Gardens Coordinator at 620-2227, rallie@parkwaypartnersnola.org
