The Schoolyard/ Community garden at J. W. Johnson School has been getting a great deal of attention lately; it is the first community garden on school grounds in New Orleans. The school children were recently invited to the governor's mansion to plant a butterfly garden with Supriya Jindal. Parkway Partners, Keep Louisiana Beautiful, New Orleans Food and Farm Network, Priestley School, neighborhood associations and the local community partnered on the garden. The math and science curriculum is supported as students learn about growing their own food, healthy eating and composting.
