One of the first ever Orleans Parish Tree Troopers, Amelie Oriol was honored along with urban farmer (and 2nd Saturday featured speaker this month), Philip Soulet by Cox Enterprises as "Cox Heroes". Amelie and Philip have worked for many years to help beautify New Orleans and educate its citizens on the benefits of growing and greening their city. Both have donated their awards to Parkway Partners for the continuation of our gardening and tree planting programs.

On Saturday, September 11, our Second Saturday program features Back to the Vegetable Garden--get your garden bed ready--Parkway Partners gardener, Philip Soulet takes you from the ground up; demonstrating soil preparation and seeding for a productive fall vegetable harvest. Free seeds. Herb & vegetable starts, cottonseed meal, diatomaceous earth, fruit trees and winter hardy perennials for sale.

More than 100 large trees were planted as Parkway Partners joined The Gulf Coast Housing Partnership to host an Alliance for Community Trees NeighborWoods event. Volunteers from Catholic Charities and Parkway Partners rolled up their sleeves and worked in the rain to get the job done.

Honorary chairs, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and his wife, Cheryl invite you to join them for the 2010 Feast with the Stars jazz brunch. The event features fabulous food from fine local restaurants including Bayona, Windsor Court Grill Room, Dooky Chase and K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. Entertainment will be provided by the New Orleans City Band along with celebrities and special guests. Auction items include gift certificates to the New Orleans Opera, the Audubon Nature Institute, the New Orleans Athletic Club, Watercolor Inn & Resort, Cafe Degas and many more. Feel free to wear your Halloween costume, or not, and enjoy great food, fun and a Bloody Mary or Mojito at a historic landmark.
