| We're making a splash on July 10! |
Our July Second Saturday Program on the 10th is all about water features. Heat tolerant plants, tropicals, semi-tropicals, sun lovers and shade seeking plants will be available. Bring your "volunteer plants" to our swap table.
At 10 am Dennis Weese will demonstrate how to create your own water feature, using easy to find tools and materials.

| Neutral Ground Partners |
Parkway Partners Neutral Ground Partner Billy Southern, along with Michael Karam and many of their friends worked hard to plant 12 beautiful pink crepe myrtle trees along two blocks of Jackson Avenue. After Michael and Billy had participated in Parkway Partners 10 for the Neighborhood Tree initiative, planting more than 150 street to sidewalk trees, they focused their energy on the neutral grounds. With lots of neighborhood participation the neutral ground between Magazine and Laurel Streets is a beautiful site. Pass by and admire their work. If you want to participate in Parkway Partners Neutral Ground Partners program.

| Mildred Fossier, 97 |
Coleen Landry of the Live Oak Society presents a certificate naming a large oak in Palmer Park as "The Mildred Fossier Oak" in honor of Fossier's 97th birthday. Jean Fahr presented a framed Proclamation from Mayor Mitch Landrieu, in appreciation for Mildred's service. The ceremony took place near the monument in the center of the park where a plaque recognizes Fossier's work as Superintendent of the Parks Commission in 1977. Parkway Partners supported renovations to Palmer Park in 2005 through a Wallace Foundation grant.

TREE TROOPERS GRADUATE |
Teresa and John Guillen proudly accept their Tree Trooper hats, shovels and certificates from Parkway Partners Executive Director Jean Fahr as their children eagerly participate. Fourteen Tree Troopers completed training and are ready to lead volunteer efforts throughout the city. Each graduate has committed to 12 volunteer hours and some are already busy. Two have partitioned to organize Friends of Joe W. Brown Park so that they can become actively involved in restoring the jewel of New Orleans East. Several others have begun recruiting neighbors to participate in Parkway Partners 10 for the Hood Tree Planting initiative. This class joins more than 60 Tree Trooper alumni who continue to actively participate in Parkway Partners ReLeaf New Orleans initiative.
The next Tree Trooper sessions will be held in 2011. Check the newsletter/website for updates.
