"New Orleans Garden Favorites" with recently
retired Dept. of Parks and Parkways Landscape
Architect Keith Bleichner speaking at 10 a.m.
Bleichner will share some of his favorite
garden plants including a few old New Orleans
heirlooms which have been passed from
neighbor to neighbor over the years,
exquisitely fragrant plants, butterfly and
hummingbird magnets and "semi" tropicals
which survived the great freeze of the winter
of 2009/2010. The sale will also feature
roses, butterfly plants, heat tolerant
plants, natural pest deterrents, beneficial
insects such as ladybugs and praying
mantis,and lots of tropicals.

Looking for space to garden, Tara Gass was
connected to Haley's Harvest on Oretha Castle
Haley. Long time Garden Director August
Taylor welcomed her but stated that the soil
needed re-conditioning. Tara brought in the
soil and the volunteers to get the garden
back in shape. For information on joining
their effort, contact them directly at:
haleysharvest@gmail.com or contact
rallie@parkwaypartnersnola.org to secure
space in one of the many Parkway Partners
gardens.

Girl Scouts from Mount Herman Baptist Church
in New Orleans recently participated in a
program in the Parkway Partners Greenhouse
where they potted plants for Mother's Day and
then spent time in a community garden. The
greatest excitement was identifying the smell
of herbs and petting chickens.
