    Come Toast Our 6,000th Tree!
    NONDC

Join us at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 4th in the 2800 block of Chippewa as Parkway Partners volunteers install this planting season's last ReLeaf New Orleans trees. A Toasting Ceremony will cap off the 2008-2009 planting season and take the total of trees planted through Parkway Partners to 6,000! In recognition of the milestone, Louisiana's Urban Forester, Tom Campbell, will be on hand to deliver celebratory remarks.

Trees should go in the ground in the coolest months of the year in our region. "By the end of March," says the Louisiana Urban Forestry Council, "all tree plantings should cease. Roots need time to become established in the ground before the heat of summer arrives."

Since October 1st, Parkway Partners volunteers have installed more than 280 crepe myrtle, oak, redbud, silverbell, holly, fringe and magnolia trees in Treme, Central City, New Orleans East, and Gentilly. Another 300 trees of the same variety were planted in Lakeview, Uptown, Carollton, Marigny, Bywater, and along Paris Avenue.

New Orleans residents, City Year of Louisiana, Holy Cross High School and visiting college students all embraced Parkway Partners' 10 for the Hood program and took pride in planting entire city blocks.
