Green Greetings
Parkway Partners was awarded the Seal
of Excellence from the Louisiana
Association of Nonprofit Organizations in
October 2008. To earn the designation,
Parkway Partners underwent a rigorous
review of LANO's 57 standards that
emphasize best practices in nonprofit
management. Parkway Partners works
closely with the City of New Orleans
Department of Parks and Parkways but
does not receive any funding from the city.
We rely on contributions from the private
sector to enable our many programs. All
contributions are tax-exempt.

| Huge Seed Donation From Ed Hume |
 |
|
Ed Hume Seed Company donated over
1000 pounds of quality vegetable and
flower seeds to Parkway Partners so that
we could circulate the seeds to the
gardeners of New Orleans.
This is the second year in a row!
Special thanks in coordinating the effort go
to Hands On New Orleans and Fed
Ex/Kinkos who generously handled moving
the huge shipment from Seattle to
Parkway Partners. Pictured above

| Mission Utopia |
 |
|
On Rampart Street, squash, radishes, lots
of greens, broccoli, cauliflower flow out in a
picture-perfect micro-farm that would
make any Southerner salivate. This
Bywater Neighborhood garden is aptly
named Mission Utopia.
Gardener Kweku Naawie is far from
the standard Southern farmer although his
roots to family farming run deep. "I learned
to farm in an area north of Austin. My
Grandfather was an old school gardener,"
said Naawie. By trade, Naawie is a
Cabinet Maker and Carpenter in New
Marigny. But he can be found in his
garden every morning, harvesting or
tending the next crop. So why does he do
it? "It gives me the ability to eat good food
every day."

Restoring New Orleans' urban forest is
essential to the city's recovery from
Katrina. Participation in Gift of ReLeaf is
an easy and rewarding way to participate
in this important effort. Trees in cities are
beautiful and inspiring, and they perform
essential ecological functions that
safeguard residents' health, save public
dollars, and contribute to the vitality of the
community.
ReLeaf New Orleans is Parkway Partners'
citywide post-Katrina tree replacement
campaign, whose goal is to restore New
Orleans' urban forest.
To give the Gift of ReLeaf contact Deb
Graham at 504-620-2227 or
