  • Vetiver the Wonder Grass at 2nd Saturday Program 8/11 from 9 to noon
    vetiver

Vetiver is the remarkable plant that repels termites and has attributes that could protect our wetlands. Learn about this amazing plant with Dr. Gregg Henderson of LSU and Don Heumann, the local nurseryman who discovered its merits. Vetiver, other grasses, vines and plants available at the greenhouse from 9 a.m. to noon.

In September, our very own Macon Fry the "garden guy" will be the guest speaker on the topic of preparing your kitchen garden. Come by to meet him!

Plan Now for Neighborhood Tree Planting

Time to get busy and get green. Plan now for street tree planting this fall and winter. Get together with your neighbors (or your Neighborhood Association) to plant at least ten street trees and we will supply the trees. The early bird gets the trees, as a limited number of trees are available. Contact jalbrecht@parkwaypartnersnola.org if you need information or just want to talk about your plans. She will guide you through the process which includes a one-year commitment to care for the trees, completion of the Neighborhood Agreement Form. Once the NO Dept of Parks and Parkways gives the okay the neighborhood leader will be contacted and the planting can begin. September 15 is the deadline for plans to be completed and approved.

Parkway Partners Supports the Berean Presbyterian Summer Camp
    school kids

Supported by Parkway Partners, the Berean Presbyterian Summer Camp created a Trapizoid in a Triangle. Under the direction of Bonnie Fastring and Elder Feltus Lee, twenty two children participate in learning activities that are fun and help to beautify their central city neighborhood. The children, ranging in age from 5-11, have worked hard to weed the site and plant magnolia trees. Next, the campers will add colorful flowers that can be enjoyed by all who pass through this busy intersection. When the camp ends volunteers from the church will continue to maintain the site that the children have worked so hard to complete. Thanks to the children, their parents, and teachers for their efforts to ReLeaf New Orleans!

    Residents Revitalize Fortier Park

Tree Trooper Denise Germer is representing Parkway Partners to support the final phase of the Fortier Park revitalization. Bobby Wozniak, a Parkway Partner volunteer, cared for the Park's lush foliage until Katrina destroyed most of the improvements. Bob McGuire rallied residents to raise funds to replace what was lost. With its herb garden, art work, benches and chess boards it is once again a neighborhood retreat. The group has targeted the area between the street and the sidewalk for the next improvement which will be a lovely addition to an already beautiful space.
