| Save Our Trees 2007 |

The Buck Moths began flying over the holidays,
indicating that the infestation will be heavy this
March when caterpillars consume new foliage on Live
Oak trees. These trees were severely stressed by
hurricane winds in 2005 and the subsequent drought
in 2006. Spraying will help to protect the trees from
this added stress. Neighbors should coordinate
together to assure that all surrounding trees are
sprayed. If you would like a Parkway Partners
speaker at your neighborhood meeting or if you would
like flyers for circulation, contact Burdette at
Parkway Partners at 620-2224. Fertilizing and
termite treatment are also available for our valued
street trees.

Releaf New Orleans - Elysian Fields Planting |
|
|
|
Volunteers from Gentilly Neighborhood Associations
joined Parkway Partners in planting 50 live oak trees
on Elysian Fields Avenue through ReLeaf New
Orleans This is the first phase of planting on
the corridor as led by volunteer Citizen Forester
Amelie Oriole and Peggy Rosefeldt. ReLeaf
New Orleans is made possible by support
from American Forests, Home Depot, National
Resource Conservation Service, Entergy, Brown
Foundation and others. Citizens are encouraged to
support this Parkway Partners effort by sponsoring an
oak, magnolia, crepe myrtle or street tree.
The following article written by Susan Finch
appeared on NOLA.com on December 15, 2006.
"Like tens of thousands of mature trees that once
lined the city's boulevards and other public spaces,
the stately magnolias on the the neutral ground along
Elysian Fields Avenue are now gone, after soaking for
6 weeks in brackish floodwater."
