Hello ABC!
It's that time of the year again. Time to pack those suitcases and head for Book Expo America. We've got a great line-up this year, including a new program that we're particularly excited about-- Tea with Children's Authors. This event, co-sponsored with the CBC and the ABA, will give 120 lucky booksellers and librarians a chance to relax and chat with over "a cuppa" with a fantastic list of authors including Kate DiCamillo, Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Libba Bray, Mo Willems, Jon Scieszka, Rosemary Wells, and many more! Check out the details below. We also have some great updates to our existing programs including a new home in the ABA Lounge, some tweaks to our Not-a-Dinner and (Mostly) Silent Auction--more food, more chairs, new order of the evening-- and our first ever LIVE announcement of the E.B. White Awards. Last, but certainly not least, we're making more space for our Annual Meeting so that we have plenty of time to gather member feedback and suggestions related to our announcement last week about one possibility for ABC's future. So, dig in, sign-up, and come on down. We're looking forward to seeing you there. Regards, Kristen Can't wait? Online Registration for ABC Events at BEA |

Throughout the show - Javits 1E07/08
This year we decided to move off the show floor, and put out
our shingle where we could spend more time time talking to our members and less
time fielding questions from the uninitiated and the unpublished.
So come on by, take a load off, pick up a membership sticker, the latest ABC
materials, browse the new website, or just say howdy.
We'd love to see you and
offer you a little ABC hospitality.

In today's challenging bookselling climate, it is critical
to find and keep your edge over your competition. Covering the
basics and using traditional marketing is no longer enough. Your customers must
know you, understand why your business goes beyond the basics, value your
experience, and seek it out. You are your own best advertising; customers have
what you want, and as soon as you show them, they will come. Learn how to
leverage your expertise and use it as a powerful marketing tool to build your
business exponentially.

from new authors. This year's lunch is moderated by Kristen Cashore, author of Graceling, one of our featured picks from 2008. Come hear
Kristen talk about her experiences as a new author whose successful book was
embraced by independent booksellers, and pick up a galley for her equally wonderful follow-up, Fire
(Penguin). She will be joined by Daniel and Dina Nayeri, brother/sister authors of the new novel Another
Faust (Candlewick), a satirical re-imagining of the classic bargain set in an
elite New York
private school. There will be one other New Voices speaker TBA. Afterward browse the Galley Grab for ten more titles that our 2009 New Voices committee loved.
