| Fall Facts: A Look at the #1 Cause of Workplace Fatalities | |

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health released a report looking at workplace fatality statistics from the 1990s, and it found that falls were the fourth leading cause of workplace fatalities. Unfortunately, more recent statistics show that this hasn't changed much as time has passed; in fact, falls have risen to the number-one position in both construction and general industry.

Contractors, developers and designers face a new sort of project backlog across the New York region today: many hundreds of stalled sites that loom as a steep challenge to the industry. But while dormant sites stand as grim reminders of a weak economy, it is the jobs that are set to restart that are posing new problems "I don't think we've ever seen the phenomenon at this scale," says Richard Anderson, president of the New York Building Congress, of the high number of stalled sites. | Builder confidence rises in October | |
Builder confidence in the market for newly built, single-family homes rose four points to 18 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) for October. This marks the largest one-month gain since April 2010, when the home buyer tax credit program helped fuel the market.

| Details on Planned World Financial Center Retail Unfold | |

MORE details are emerging about the $250-million World Financial Center retail redevelopment and modernization by Brookfield Office Properties.
When completed in 2013, the WFC will be home to over 40 highfashion apparel retailers; a 25,000 square-foot, European-style gourmet marketplace that will include sales of food, home goods, flowers and wine; and a 30,000-squarefoot, waterfront dining component including six restaurants and 15 "chef-driven" casual dining eateries.
