The joint tolerances in gypsum board systems rated for fire, sound, or shear resistance need to be tighter than the joint tolerances in non-rated systems. In total, higher levels of expected performance require higher levels of precision in construction.

(Jun. 16) The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) offered its take on the 10% decline in housing starts for May. Generally, there was little surprise.
 "Not surprisingly, builders tapped the breaks on new-home production and pulled fewer permits for new homes in May in response to an expected lull in buyer demand following expiration of the tax credits at the end of April," noted Bob Jones, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. |

Stimulus-Funded Projects Grow; Construction Jobs Increase
Construction firms added 14,000 new jobs in April, the second consecutive month of employment gains for the industry, according to an analysis of new federal figures released May 7 by the Associated General Contractors of America.
