Don has recently been approched by Time Life for
new product recommendations. If you would like
your product to be considered by Don, and then
possibly considered by Time Life, submit your idea to
us to look over. You can fill out a confidentiality form if you
do not have intellectual protection rights and submit

Greetings!
Starting in this issue, we will be having a series of
articles by Edith Tolchin, "The Sourcing Lady" (SM),
an expert in overseas manufacturing for inventors.
This week she will discuss Customs Binding Rulings for
importing your products. Also in this issue, we
wanted to discuss how to find a
market insider to help you license your idea and we
also added a great inventor story about Carroll
Bassett. Remember to check the bottom of the
newsletter, because we often have little reminders or
free inventor tools. As always, we would love to
hear from you and we hope you are enjoying our
newsletter!

How to find a market insider

Many inventors underestimate how helpful a market
insider will be. A market insider will already have a
large list of contacts and be familiar with how the
industry works. Also, by giving the insider a 10 to
20% share of the royalties, your insider will have the
incentive to go the extra mile to ensure you both are
getting the best deal possible.
But where do you meet these insiders?

Inventor story: Carroll Bassett

This month, we wanted to include an inventor story
about Carroll Bassett.
While on a caving expedition, Bassett reached what
seemed to be a dead end, but he then discovered a
small hole in the rock with air rushing out of it, which
indicates a large cavity on the other side. He had to
turn back, but started pondering how he could reach
the other side.

The importance of a Binding Ruling for your imported invention

By Edith Tolchin, "The Sourcing Lady" (SM)
President of EGT Global Trading, a company
specializing in offshore manufacturing for inventors.
So, you have determined that offshore manufacturing
is the best solution for bringing your invention to
market, right? Able to stick to the tight "start-up"
budget for your newly formed business because you
have now seen that it is very frequently cheaper to
make your product in another country? The quality
of the counter-samples you have been receiving from
the various prospective sources is excellent - just as
good as, if not better than those you had received
from domestic factories?

Question for Don

Dear Don,
I have a product that would be perfect to license to
a specific manufacturer. I have sent a letter to the
company's president, but I have yet to hear a
response. Do you have any suggestions?
