Circle of WellnessApril 2011
Greetings!

Ahh Springtime...Or shall I say Ahhh-Choo Springtime!!

While springtime allergies are abundant and uncomfortable, consider it a cleansing that your body is working through, a Spring Cleaning of sorts.  We tend to get into a mode to air out the old stuffiness in our homes at the first opportunity of warmth. Lets not forget to air out the stuffiness within our bodies that have accumulated over the holidays and winter months.

Each time you open your windows this spring, take a moment to breathe in the beauty of self growth and cleanse  old patterns of resistance to change.

Sincerely,
Kathleen Wellman

Introductory EFT Workshop
Tuesday, April 19th 7pm
EFT Pic
Join us this evening as Wendy Branchfield explains and demonstrates Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) principles in a group setting.

EFT is often referred to as a Needless Acupuncture  or Energy Psychology.  EFT utilizes light tapping with the fingertips on Chinese Medicine Qi (Chi) points on the face and body while an EFT Practitioner skillfully cues into the issue at hand using specific verbiage.  EFT is a non-invasive way to release trauma from the body, mind and energetic systems.

When any trauma occurs, it gets downloaded by the brain and body while we are in the FIGHT or FLIGHT mode and is therefore unable to be processed properly.  The trauma is then frozen within our energetic system, as a coping mechanism, and becomes a piece of our IDENTITY and ultimately the nature of our subconscious belief systems.  It is these subconscious belief systems that predicate the actions we take and what we manifest in our daily lives.  The key to changing those belief systems and subsequent actions is to release the underlying trauma.

Thats where EFT comes in.  EFT can be used for every kind of trauma from physical pain to PTSD to weight loss.

Please RSVP to this workshop as seats are limited.

Sunscreen Safety
sunscreen
We tend to take for granted that any sunscreen we buy and use is better than nothing right???

An article that appeared in the Chicago Tribune on 5/24/10 was a great reference for Sunscreens and helps to decipher the SPF Factors, ingredient list and how to use it.

An interesting point was made that the FDA drafted guidelines three decades ago that have yet to be implemented...

The Environmental Working Group, in an attempt to light a fire under the FDA, has issued a Sunscreen Safety Guide, and Consumer Reports has also issued their guide.

Basically, the rule of thumb is if you need a magnifying glass to read the label, there are most likely ingredients that are potentially harmful or can be irritating to your skin and body.  The article goes on to state:

"One sunscreen ingredient flagged as risky by the Environmental Working Group is oxybenzone, which boosts UVA protection and is FDA approved. The group cites lab studies suggesting it has an estrogenic effect and can be absorbed into the bloodstream."

For more information on sunscreens go the Environmental Working Groups site and enter Sunscreen into their search field.

Rooibos Tea to the Rescue!
by Teavana tea...

Tea

A great article and reference for Springtime Allergies...

During Spring does your nose turn a permanent color of pink from sneezing and rubbing of tissues? Are your eyes so red that friends ask if your pool is open? And does your head feel like an explosion is imminent? Allergy sufferers often have a love/hate relationship with Spring as aggravating allergens and irritants seem to accompany every beautiful blossom.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies, let us introduce you to

Rooibos teas

Rooibos, sometimes called "red tea," comes from a bush in South Africa. Rooibos is a delicious herbal tea full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. More importantly, it also contains two bioflavonoids-Rutin and Quercetin-that can be almost magical for allergy sufferers.

Bioflavonoids and Allergies

Bioflavonoids, Rutin and Quercetin, interfere with your body's histamine which causes the stuffiness and stomach issues associated with allergies (for a more scientific discussion, see this article). If you suffer from food allergies and/or the more traditional respiratory allergies, consuming these particular bioflavonoids can help reduce inflammation and allergy symptoms. Rooibos teas provide a natural source of these bioflavonoids. Rooibos teas are also caffeine-free. You can drink them from morning right up until bedtime to assist with relief from a stuffy, runny nose or even stomach nausea.
